Pity that Barney Frank didn't lose, but this election will always remain a fond memory in my heart after Keith Olbermann openly wept on live TV. That man is a fucking PRO.

he did? where?

That's pretty amazing. Guess he and beck aren't that different after all

Oh wait, he's cried before nevermind. I remember he cried about gay rights

Even John Stewart gets that much.  Of course the thing Stewart doesn't get is... that even though he specifically says "We are not a real news show" people take them as a real news show anyway, a LOT of them.

The Daily Show and Colbert Report are no better then the cable shows they mock... at least  not in effect.

Well anytime anyone talks or even mocks politics, they are going to be making some sort of political statement.  So that only makes sense.  I think the real thing to remember, is that at the forefront they are trying to be funny, and only secondary does a message come out.  Think the best thing to do is just sit back and laugh and not think too much about it haha.  But I guess I can see where you are coming from with them two.

Oh, I don't really care, I find the shows funny.  Used to watch them all the time.

I just find it funny that lately Stewart has stepped up his attacks on cable news networks when he's having the same effect.

Most governments *do* drop in popularity during the mid term. However, it usually isn't something that shifts fast. For example, the Republicans lost about 60 seats over TWO votes....The Dems may lose that many in half the time.

Yes, its possible that a 3rd party candidate could win the presendency. However, it hasn't happened since Abraham Lincoln in 1860. It almost happened with Ross Perot in 1992, but due to crazy circumstances, he lost.

Yea they drop in popularity on the midterm as a large amount of seats picked up by the President's party in the presidential election year is from independents rallying with that party.  Midterm elections aren't as "popular" among the masses and the president's party loses those votes.  So the loss is well-documented and almost guaranteed to happen, aside from a few instances in American political history.

Now for losing them fast, it usually doesn't happen fast.  However, in times of economic trouble, usually those in power aren't looked highly upon.  Economy, has and always will, trump any other issue.  So with a high unemployment rate and an economy, while stable, but not fully recovered, a large swing power isn't something to out of the question and obviously what we are seeing right now.  Whether or not the state of the economy is in fact the fault (if bad) or success (if good) of the party in control, it usually tends to be seen that way.

Really shows how important the state of the economy is into the political game in America, or well any country.

Historically, if the Republicans take 50-60 seats, it will be the 3rd worst election in history for Democrats. Only 1894 and 1938 were worse. Crazy stuff.

Definitely crazy stuff but that's what makes politics so interesting me.  Why I majored in it haha.  But yea the election 1894 followed the Panic of 1893 and the election of 1938 followed the recession of 1937.

Democrats are definitely going to have to be planning these next 2 years to really ensure that 2012 doesn't completely take them out.  But I guess even more importantly, is how this mixed government of Democrats and Republicans are going to overcome the issues at present.  Should be quite interesting.

Well shoot him an e-mail with a skit to make fun of himself and maybe he'll do it on one of the shows haha.  Or send it to Colbert to parody him haha.  Either way I'm sure it would be rather entertaining.

Well, historically, this election will be fine according to this....

Now, if only "The History of Tomorrow" would focus on the console wars.

I don't really have the feeling their are many republicans living outside of the USA, whole night here at the bar (Brussels) I had to hear that USA is doomed, republicans will win, they will fuck it up and in 2012 an T.E.A party candidate is going to be the new president..  Hehe when their are elections it is always a big drama back in time half NY told me they would move to Canada if Bush get re-elected in the end I think two persons moved to Canada.

Wow, Toomey's taken the lead. This is going to be a nailbiter!

PA senate has been a nailbiter, no doubt.

The Kirk-Giannoulias race in Illinois is going to go down to the wire, too. Giannoulias is up by 2%, but the conservative counties are still coming in.

In other news, Fiengold in Wisconsin is getting the beating of a lifetime. I never expected him to be losing so soundly.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It's ironic that the guy who was the last nail in the coffin of the Public Option is taking such a beating for his vote for healthcare.

That's the problem with the way the house of representatives work.

All the crazy people get to live on cause they live in pure blue or red districts while everybody else pays the price being replaced with someone who isnt really that much different.

For example, everyone in my old disctirct in Ohio wanted to dump Kusinich, but they didn't want a republican.  Democrats never challenged in the primary.  Or rarely did anyway.

Oh another funny story.  Republicans look bound for Minor party status in Colorado.

It's going to be the Democrats and the Constituion Party.

Republicans are now ahead with 30 seats in Congress, and 4 in the Senate.

I thought Tancredo was Independant in CO, or did he go CP? Amazing if he went 3rd party, as opposed to indie. Ohio has another 3 to add to the 30 for the Republicans. They're all called locally, but not nationally.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
