34. Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (SNES)

As the first and only side scroller in the series, Ys III is a controversial game among Ys fans. But it's far and away my favorite for just that reason as the change led to Falcom finally disposing of that awful bump-into-enemies-to-attack mechanic. It also brings to the table a charming simplicity, some nice Metroidvania lite gameplay, and Mieko Ishikawa's incredible soundtrack (which, amazingly, didn't suffer one bit from the legendary Yuzo Koshiro sitting this one out). Also working in its favor is a whole heap of nostalgia. There are perhaps better versions of Ys III, and though I'm currently playing through Oath in Felghana on the PSP and am impressed with the many improvements over the original, the SNES version will always be dear to me. It just gives me a special feeling. I need to take off my pants now. Please leave me alone.

34. Metroid Prime 2

The increased challenge compared to the first made me love this series even more.   Quadraxis and the Ing Emperor are two of my favorite bosses all time.

Welcome back!

@Tayne

Echoes is the only Metroid game I've played and haven't completed. Now that I have Trilogy, I need to go back and complete the series!

40. God of War 3

God of War is shit on by a bunch of Devil may cry fanboies who cry profusely and cut themselves to the fact that it is, and will always be, the top selling Hack and Slash game ever. That alone is reason enough for me to put a god of war game in my top 50. But make no mistake, there are other reasons... many in fact. Truth be told, I'm not much of a hack and slash fan. But I am a fan of Legacy of Kain, soul reaver. And when I first played God of War, it was clear that David Jaffe attempted to interfuse (is that even a word?) upfront hack and slash DMC with puzzles and storytelling of LoK... with a touch of cyclops massacring thrown in for good measure. This formula's resulting dish was, IMO, pretty fucking sweet.

I only have one God of War game on my list, and that honor goes to God of War 3. To the people proclaiming the previous entries better, go back and replay the original and #2 through the GOW collection. You will (or should) realize that those game are really a last gen affair. Things feel dated... badly. There are too many block puzzles and a large portion of them are boring! The weapons... pft, what other weapons? And the boss fights have not aged well...

God of War 3 on the other hand has far more awesome. For example, the bosses are f'ing amazing and massive like Chronos and horrifyingly brutal like Hercules (shivers). If someone makes a top ten of "GREATEST BOSS FIGHTS EVA!"  it should be mandatory to include at least 2 or three bosses from God of War 3. It just is. Also, the puzzles have far more variety and badass...ness (Example: cerebus and the bow). Magic system rules and the combat part is "HOLY SHIT" brutal and visceral as always. Plus, the addition of being able to pick up enemies and use them as battering rams and scorpion enemies with the BoC = pure win ^_^

GoW3's only problem is that the story just shits out with that hope bullshit... I mean wtf!!! Why would they do that! They didn't have to wing it and try and make Kratos a relateable character!!! Regardless great game, my #40.

(Was too long, posted it in here)

T0o earlieh! D:<

Seriously though, this game is freaking incredible. The hunt for the Sky Temple Keys admittedly dragged on for a little too long, but that's pretty much the only bad thing about it, imo.

OT: Drat, I'm late! I'll try to catch up a bit tomorrow.

39- SoulCalibur II (GameCube)

38- Resident Evil Code: Veronica (DreamCast)

37- Final Fantasy VIII (Playstation)

36- Metroid Prime (GameCube)

35- Viewtuful Joe (GameCube)

34- Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

@Fab

It's okay!

34. Super Smash Bros. (N64)

SUPAH! SMASH... BROOOOTHERS!

One of the coolest intros at the time... imagine, if you will, seeing Mario, PIkachu, Fox, and Link come to life just to settle the score once and for all: who is the best? That's really the only reason I bought the game. I've never been much of a fan of fighters (of course there's expectations, like SCII above), but to have 4 player multiplayer mayhem with Nintendo's greatest mascots... that's something that cannot be passed up. Luckily, the gameplay is really unlike anything I ever played before (and unlike anything I've played since) and is incredibly fun and frantic. Let me tell ya, having four friends huddled around the T.V., shouting at one another, hi-fiving one another, punching each other all because of what's happening on screen is a great experience.

How can you even talk about this game without mentioning this commercial?!
