PS3 will never pass 70 million...
Don't forget it is not the market leader and Nintendo can tap those same growing markets, sooner and with lower price. Also, next gen starts in 2 years.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

THE PLAYSTATION 2 LAUNCHED AT $299 is misleading as it launched at that price in the US PS2 Japan 39,800 yen US $299 Canada $449 UK 299 pnd Europe 430 euro Australia $749 PS3 Japan 49,800 yen US $499 -$599 Canada $549-659 UK 425 premium Europe 499-599 Australia$829 -999 the two price points reflect core - premium consoles |
Yes, but you must also look at things such as inflation and exchange rates. I can only speak for Canada but i can assume similar situations for the countries. I remember that
2000 - 1CAD = 0.66USD
2010 - 1CAD = 0.98USD
So no, i didn't buy the PS2 the year it came out, I bought it around 2003 and payed $300CAD. Now things are diffeent. CAD and US get virtually the same price on new games.

Next Gen for console will not start in 2 years. most likely 2013-2014 we will hear some news, but also remember that even after new consoles are released, it takes time for it to get games, because developers will still be making PS3 games when PS4 comes out. and i think it will pass 70 million. especially if it gets a price cut to $199.
God let's not twist things! It's doin well in europe. In japan to be honest no home console has been performing well. PS3 is only lookin impressive there cuz the wii is all but dead in japan. In NA the numbers are ok considering how strong the wii and xbox are strong in that region. I'd say the PS3 has done so well after a really poor first 2 years.
But yeah 100 million, well i think PS3 is hitting its peak, but the small markets are really eating up PS3's so anything is possible. And it really does seem that the PS3's life will be long. I'd say 70-80 mil not more, cuz i really think the xbox will outshine the PS3 in NA after kinect, and well FF13 didnt really boost the PS3 to massive numbers... In EU though, especially outside uk, i think the PS3 will be the biggest console from now on
God guys, the way some of you are talking
The PS3 is going to cap at 60-70 million, and the boost we're seeing isn't a damn permanent one. The Move isn't going to boost sales for another 52 weeks, or even another 26. PS3 sales will drop back down to its original level, perhaps a little higher, and it most certainly will not have an 8 year life-span. The new consoles are going to be announced next year, and they will probably come out around 2012.
Sales always plummet with the new consoles on the horizon. The PS3 won't have a 10 year life-span. It has lost this generation. There is no way it will pass 100 million.

PS3 has been doing okay, not very poorly, considering the many factors it had against it.
