So I'm upgrading my PC finally to a Core i7 system.

I will have an Core i7 950, EVGA 3x SLi mobo, 8GBs ram, Corsair H70 CPU cooler, NZXT Phantom case with all fans (minus rear fan of course for the CPU cooler). And I am getting a wonderful new monitor on top of it all (Acer's Nvidia 3D approved 23.6")

This upgrade is costing me $1.4k, but my dad is paying for the entire thing =D. It will be a massive improvement over  my current AMD setup which is hit a brick wall for upgrading (with monitor it would still have cost me $1.1k to upgrade to a SLi AM3 setup).

Current setup btw, AMD 7750be OCed to 3GHz, EVGA GTX480 (15% OC), 6GB DDR2 1066, Gigabyte mobo,  10k RPM WD HDD, BR drive (useless due to current monitor), DVD burner, NZXT Tempest case, Zalman CPU cooler.

So yes, massive upgrade, and Ill be able to use my BR drive finally...

There wasn't much wrong with your last system but the specs of your new computer looks like it should rip through any game you run on it (and likely to be that way for some time).  8 Gig seems a strange amount of memory for a tri-channel though but if you have it you may as well plug it in .

Stay away from dual channel if you have the i7s. Get either the 6gigs or the 12gigs. HOnestly with 6 gigs I havent been able to fill it all up no matter how much I have tried to fill all the 6 gigs, so 6 should do you fine enough.

Why couldn't you use your blu ray drive for your computer? I was thinking of getting one but i'm kind of worried now that you said you couldn't...

New case, DDR3 1600 ram, CPU, mobo, 3 fans, CPU cooler, new monitor. Most expensive pieces in order is the monitor, mobo, and CPU. All basically $280 - $350 in price.

@dsister - my current monitor isnt HDCP compatible so my BR software yells at me and refuses to play BR movies on it.

Its actually two sticks of 4GBs. The max my new mobo can handle is 24GBs. 4GB sticks was the way to go.

Yeah you can. 1 monitor or 3 monitors is surround.  I've fallen out of love with 3D vision as of late, but I loved using it for gaming for well over a year.

You've got all the right parts to give 3D vision a go(480 the Acer 3D 23 inch monitor are the best combo right now for 3D)...look in to it I suggest. It supports 100s of games which work really well in 3D. Metro 2033 or Trine in 3D makes PS3/360 3D stuff look like childs play.
