Forums - Nintendo - Transferring Downloaded Games to new Wii

hey there everyone.  I'm seriously thinking buying the new Red Wii that is coming out, but I've read that you can't transfer your games over to the new console unless you get "special treatment" from nintendo.  The thing is that I got like 50 games on my system.  Do you know if Nintendo has figured out a solution to this problem yet or if they have become more lenient in their approach to helping gamers transfer?  Any info would greatly be appreciated and thanks in advance!

just counted my games and i have 60 games downloaded....i should probably just call nintendo and talk to them about transferring my stuff

Let us know what you hear. I only have two downloaded games on my Wii VC (Castlevania and Contra) which wouldn't be too expensive to replace, but I've heard nothing on the system locked saves (I put in over 40 hours into Mario Kart, so thats a pretty big loss) but my graphic card got overheated so I get those wonderful pixels on my screen during gameplay and I was also considering buying a Red Wii.

It's just that simple.

Well you could send it in for repair and prob be able to keep your saves but I highly doubt you could transfer the saved game data to a new Wii.  I am sure you can probably get Nintendo to register the new Wii for the D/L games but saved data is another story.

I would like to know about this too.

Contact Nintendo, they'll transfer your games AND unmovable saves (ie: Smash Brawl, Mario Kart, etc) for you for sure since it's a hardware failure issue.  They did for me. <3

transfering game saves is easy. just put them on a SD card, me and my friend do it all the time.

oh I forgot to mention. I had the same problem with the overheated gfx card. I sent it to nintendo for repair and they tranfered all my vc/wiiware games to a new wii for me

As stated above, saved game data and the actual games are treated as seperate content (just like on the PSP, PS3, and 360).  You can transfer the saved game data without a problem.  You can even buy an accessory called "Power Saves" that will let you get saved game data from the internet.  In fact, I own it.

As for the games themselves......well, that why I posted in this thread.  I want to see if there's an easy solution.  This is the main reason why I didn't buy a black Wii.
