Forums - PC - BioShock 2 PC getting DLC and patch after all... For free

The whole "Sorry guys, but the PC version of BioShock 2 isn't getting patched or the Minerva's Den and Protector Trials add-ons" thing didn't exactly go over very well. Shocking, I know. 2K Games' Elizabeth Tobey has an update, and it's a good one.

"We are a company of gamers making awesome experiences for gamers -- and given the conversations we've had over the past two weeks, we've decided to go back and finish the PC patch and Protector Trials. Currently, we are patching the final bugs in these two pieces of content and then will submit everything to certification," Tobey writes on the 2K forums. These will be free and should arrive sometime Decemberish.

"As of now, we are not certain how much longer [Minerva's Den] would take to complete the project to our standards, but we have reallocated resources to work on completing the project so PC gamers can have this experience in Rapture along with 360 and PS3 owners."

The forum post goes into why development on this content was initially halted -- progress was too slow, and 2K wanted to move on to the next game, etc. -- so hit that up if you're interested in the full story.

Well some would...

But maybe its just a thank you to the few people that didn't pirate it.

sounds good to me. Just finished the first on the xbox and wanted to get the second on pc. Does the pc version support the xbox controller?

Apparently not, even though it's a Games for Fucking Windows Live title. I've not used it, but maybe XPadder would work for this if you're dead set on using a controller.

oh no...

I played the first using the 360 controller wtf..

well im not dead set on a controller more of a preference. wil probably still buy for pc, but if i find cheap for the box i'll get it on that

I often find myself buying multi-plats for whatever happens to be cheapest at the time, although I've bought quite a few initially on console, only to rebuy them for PC when a game I enjoyed that I wanted on PC as well was slashed in price.

Bioshock 2, even on Steam, gave me some ridiculous problems with the SecuROM DRM that involved multiple contacts with the SecuROM service department before I finally gave up and held off on trying to play until I had a new boot drive with a fresh OS install set up. The only upside was that it was only $15, but that's little comfort if you can't play the game without having to reinstall EVERYTHING on a reformatted drive.

The Games for Windows requirement is also complete garbage. In short, if you're not signed on, you can't save your game, which is practically the same thing as reducing the game to a demo.

thranx- Given that it's far from an essential title (and the problems with GfWL you'll inevitably encounter), I'd wait until the Steam Christmas sale before buying. The original Bioshock has been for sale for £3.75 (~$5) a few times, so you might be able to pick up the sequel for about the same price.
