I decided to look at last years Holiday season and look at the total software sold per week and this is what I found.
I started the week of black friday and went until the last week of december, we are to a much better start this year but I compared the rise and fall of such.
Last Year This Year
W1 6.5 9.5 (actual)
W2 5.5 6.8 (actual)
W3 7 8.5 (estimate)
W4 8.6 10.3 (estimate)
W5 10.4 12.2 (estimate)
W6 3.4 4.4 (estimate)
Total 41.4 51.7
If my estimation our correct then the charts coming out in the next few days should be somewhere between last week and Black Friday. I personally beleive that the totals for each week could be higher than my estimates do to the rapid weekly expansion of all 3 systems user base compared to last year but there was anecdotal infomation for me to put a specific number on it. I also beleive the software lineup is stronger this year with all three systems having more good games out this holiday season.
Also last year there were some bigger realeses later dec (TP GC) which may have thrown off my ratio's but there was not way for me to figure a correction factor.
Overall I think these great sales should push games like MG, AC, COD4, M&S, MP8, and many other gamer(especially on the DS) to higher sales figures than most of us were predicting (baring blind fanboy predictions)
Hardware estimates would be pointless to do since I have no idea how Wii's Nintendo has, but I do expect PS3 and 360 sales to spike.
