Forums - Microsoft - My 360 decided it wanted to join in the holiday cheer!

Come on superchunk failures are all anecdotal evidence. Who came up with the 30-33% figure anyway. I doubt we will ever actually know the real failure rate. As for more useless observations I know 4 people other than me with 360s one of which is a launch system none have RROD.

I have a second shipment system thats still chugging along just fine.

You could very well be right, however, my impression thus far has been really bad. I still think the failure rate is far worse than anything MS is willing to admit. (btw, MS is who came up with the 30-33% failure rate when they announced the new 3 year warranty for RROD)

I have no doubt its way higher than it ought to be. Just pointing out that its not as bad as you pictured it in your first post. I did not realize MS had released that figure. I'm suprised they would give themselves that much bad PR.

EDIT: Just did a search MS has never admited to a more than 5% Failure rate. the 30 percent number comes from retailer reports.

had mine since launch and it still works really well........

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Me too, I had mine from launch and it still works, 2005 manufacturing date.

My first 360 broke after 3 days. I brought it back to the store and the new one hasn't broke yet.

I cant wait a month for my Xbox to return sooooooo I decided to order a new Xbox 360 Arcade Unit from Amazon. It comes with the free Beautiful Katamari and Viva Pinata (cool!). Plus I think most of the new Arcade units have hdmi and new 65nm cpu. Should get here by the end of the week. I already have a hard drive so it seems like the best choice eh?

You're getting Viva Pinata: Party Animals.  Not Viva Pinata.  There's a big difference -- your Arcade Xbox comes with the shitty one.

EDIT: Just did a search MS has never admited to a more than 5% Failure rate.

MS never admitted to any hardware failure rate.  Not 3-5%, nothing.  USA Today doesn't know how to quote, and so they replaced Microsoft's PR quote of "not outside of normal bounds" to be "less than 3-5%".

The 360 failure rate is well north of 50%. There's no way it's less than that.  If you look at even a reasonable sample size, you'll find very few people with Xbox 360s more than 18 months old and many (if not most) moderately used Xbox 360s seem to fail within 12 months.  A disappointing amount fail within a month (brand new these days).

New FALCON chipset should cut the % of RR0D by HEAPS.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I highly doubt microsoft would be shipping repackaged cores as they know that at some point they will RROD. I've read numerous places that microsoft isn't shipping out any old hardware any more -- including repaired units...

I have contemplated an elite for the big hard drive and HDMI port but it isn't worth it. If I was going to buy ANOTHER console, it wouldn't be a duplicate unless I could sell my used one for a great price. Unfortunately, they aren't bringing much in the secondhand market.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Hahaha did i just read the 360 turns itself off if it gets to hot?

Does that not bother anyone else that that should need to happen? I do have a 360, and it does get hot, but holy crap I can't believe that a gaming console could get so hot that it would need to turn itself off. I wont add any other comment to avoid a flame war tho...
