Yes. It would cost just as much as Sony but expand their market much less, specially if Apple is looking for hardware.

I said the brand, yes PS3 isn't doing well financially but the brand is still incredibly valuable and quite strong. The rest of the company though is spiralling downward, they used to differentiate through quality and hence charged more, now they just charge more for the same quality as everyone else.

I always had a felling that Apple was planning to join the game business eventually but with the help of Sony would be great! Nothing against Sony but I don't want 4 different systems next Gen...when Sega left Microsoft joined to keep 3. I don't want 4 unless another one leaves which I also don't really want to happen but if Apple joined with 1 of the 3 it still makes 3 which is fine by me.  I would rather it Microsoft since it fits better as they are both American but hey Sony works too!

Long Live the "iplay". man this would suck although I am a Nintendo fan I like Sony and appreciate what they have done for gaming, man I hate Apple they charge you $200 for an mp3 player, $1000 for a Laptop $300 dollars for a phone and $600 for that ipad thingy, man they are the biggest ripoffs.

Their is too much junk in Sony's porfolio that's useless for them. They would be paying for mostly things they don't need.

If they want to enter new market, they can hire Foxconn to build whatever they need.

Am I the only one here that thinks this wouldn't really be so bad?  The first thing Apple would do is either close or sell 1/4 to 1/2 of Sony's divisions.  (the ones that directly compete with current apple products).  

Then they would probably keep the Sony brand on everything else at first, while gradually adding the apple influence slowly.  This would give Sony a huge amount of cash so they can contend again.  And without the cash Sony will be hurting  when it comes to development.

I would like to see where this goes.  I don't hate either company and I want them both to do well.  It makes sense for Apple to make inroads into everything they can that involves electronics.  And purchasing Sony would put them at the forefront.
