Why of course.

If it wasn't for Halo:Reach I wouldn't pay for online. But that game alone makes online worth buying. And since I buy X-Box Live for Reach I might as well use Live over PSN. I think you get a slightly better service on Live is it worth 59.99$ hell no, but I'm willing to pay it to play Halo online!

I prefer to go to LAN parties but guess what they aint free either. Free traditional online gaming is threatened. It is threated by the big publishers who see many hours of gameplay but only small return, it is threatened by the success of WOW and Xbox live.

You might not want to pay for it but you sure is eggs is eggs will end up paying.

True but if you go paying now you are sending message to publishers and platform owners that people have no problem paying for stuff that was traditionally free.

10 years ago, Blizzard taught me that playing non MMO games should be free, always. So I will stand by their example.

I'm already paying for Xbox Live, but I'm not going to renew my subscription because I rarely play online.

no, I don't often play online, about 100 hours for MKWii, 50 for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Brawl and Blazblue and so far 20 for Monster Hunter Tri.   If I had to pay, I wouldn't have played any at all

I know what you are saying I just think it is too late already. Xbox live and WoW have both proved this model works they have also proved it is the online function people will pay for more than anything else.

I still enjoy Team Fortress which I still play free after all these years yet even in this game they are trying out how to make money. I remember playing battlefield 2 with the in game ads. Not sure about the Team Fortress shop thing but the in game ads do not appear to have had much success.

The most worrying mutterings for me is publishers trying to get a cut when they do not provide the infrastructure. If you provided dedicated hardware to support the online experience and that experience is compelling enough for me to want to get involved I will pay. I you sell a game and just expect it because somebody else is making money who is providing infrastructure but sorry that is not going to fly.

If you don't have a choice and you want to play online, you will.  Because there are free options, you don't.  Also, Xbox Live is $50-$60 better than the PSN.  That's where this thread is headed.  I just wanted to be the one to say it!

Hm no its not. My question is all about gaming, so Warcraft/Aion players are included, xbl, pc gaming overall, and any other paid services.

It's a simple question, not a PSN vs Live thing.

Oh.  Guess I was just being defensive.  Anyway, most people probably won't.  Only a certain percentage of people are gamers.  Only a certain percentage of people actually pay for internet or have a decent connection.  Only a certain percent of people actually like gaming online.  It takes particularly die hard people to have all of the variables (Being a gamer, having internet access with a good connection, wanting to play online, and actually wanting to pay for online gaming).

Even in my house where all of the factors are present, nobody wants to play online but me--not even if they can play for free.
