Well, the modding community will come up with a mod that supports mods!

And I believe StarCraft II started off with a closed beta.

Oh god, I hope I get an invite.

Roses are red. Violets are blue.
All of my base are belong to you.

was d2 heavily modded? The only mods i remember where my like cheats to hack the game. But that was a long time ago for me

I don't know why they have never supported mods for Diablo, while Starcraft and Warcraft get all sorts of fanmade love.

On the bright side though, Torchlight 2 is coming out in April 2011 (i think) and it sports the dev tools and LAN/Peer-to-Peer Co-op support.

I suppose, with enough effort, someone could recreate Diablo I, II, or III within Torchlight II adding any mods they wanted to the game.

The dev tools from Torchlight I were very very good and will most certainly be improved upon.

Well, if it won't support mods, the amount of in-game content better make up for it.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

No Diablo game has supported mods (thought D2 mods exist), so this isn't a shock.  Mods aren't necessary for Diablo and don't add much overall.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

random levels kind of extend gamelife anyways...

hmm I wonder what level of randomisation they will actually have in this one will it be fully randomised levels like Diablo 1 or just randomised loot and enemies like Titan Quest. Has there been any talk about that? I do love me some procedurals but from what I have seen the levels look pretty designed but that could just be really good procedurals mixed with some strict  guidelines or they just fixed the levels for the shows...

D2 was very moddable, as was the original Diablo. Just because they don't support mods or provide tools, doesn't mean they can't be modded. There are D2 mods out there that completely remap most of the levels throughout the game, completely replace all items and item images, completely replace all abilities and effects, all bosses, a few mods with tens of thousands of cube recipes.. etc. You can even get set items that turn you into Mephisto once the set is collected. Just because its not supported, doesn't mean it will not be modded.

SC2/WC3 was so moddable because of the layout used for the levels. They are RTS games, they are VERY easy to mod. The editor provided isn't any different than what blizzard used to actually design the melee and campaign levels. Doing this with the Diablo series is a bit different.

D3 will be modded. Blizzard has said that its "no less moddable than D2, even though mods aren't supported".
