Forums - Nintendo - Reggie: Apple bigger near term threat than Microsoft.

What is this a three on three pickup basketball game where you have Reggie, Iwata, and Miyamoto with their knee high gym socks on wearing short shorts and headbands against the newspaper, zynga and the internet? I just can't picture putting a pair of tube socks on a newspaper in order for it to "compete." Hell, you couldn't find a headband as large or as diverse in colors to fit on the internet's head. Zynga, that conniving, thieving little cocksucker will win the game by default by stealing the basketball hoops and making a Facebook app out of them.

About Zynga competition, IMVHO it's a big but short-termed competition, it actually could even provide more gamers to the "serious" part of the industry, as despite growing wildly, it tends to constantly lose a part of its gamers (smaller than the new gamers it attracts, anyhow) due to boredom and very low quality, a part of the lost gamers go to other flash games, but it's quite likely that a part of them looks for more deep and challenging games.

Zynga games tend to get boring with time. I stopped playing FarmVille (thank God!) for more than one reason: as the farm and the items it contains grow, it gets slower and slower, the gift management sucks requiring at least two Facebook transactions to accept each, each time you send a gift, instead of returning to the faster gift interface, by unchangeable default (if they didn't change it since I stopped playing) it starts loading again the game, very slow even if you stop the page, as it slows the browser, and last, but not least, I hadn't enough neighbours to get a further expansion and I didn't know where to put all the gifts and items, but had I solved that, it would have become even slower.

To cut it short, Zynga games SUCK!!!

But the OP raises a far bigger issue: what's with Reggie's face proportions? They are totally wrong and awkward! He'd actually be perfect in a Dick Tracy comic, though.

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

TGS, Third Grade Shooter: brand new genre invented by Kevin Butler exclusively for Natal WiiToo Kinect. PEW! PEW-PEW-PEW!

Pretty obvious - and correct.  Right now Nintendo and MS only overlap on a small demographic (might change a bit more after Kinect I guess) and a huge element of Nintendo's market is handheld, where MS is way, way back in the pecking order right now vs say Apple.

Hence his comments are both obvious and on the money from a market perspective.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

To be honest, if the 3DS wasn't so awesome, I'd just stick with my Android, in the future, smartphones will be the way to go. 3DS 2 will have to have phone capabilities.

I don't think Apple has a chance at beating the 3DS as a legitimate game platform. Those kind of games are meant for goofing off, not like stuff on the 3DS.

hes right, but don't find your self counting MS or Sony out!

I agree with him...

If Apple managed to get a grip of their handheld audience then Nintendo would effectively be finished imo.

I dont see Nintendo having a Wii like success in the home console race next time.

It's true that Apple is indeed a dangerous competitor for Nintendo, but I think it's still too early for Nintendo to lose their grip with the handheld audience. Just look at the Nintendo DS sales figures. And then there's the 3DS which has an excellent line-up and a solid entry price.

Now you could argue that the PS2 was dominating, and then just like that, Sony drove the Ps brand into the ground. But not only did they commit fatal mistakes which I strongly doubt Nintendo will repeat, but even with that, they're still managing.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I think the source of the statements is fabricating a thought by twisting information. Nintendo has been humble about the competition. It's the media that's picking a fight between Nintendo and Apple.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Well I think what apple has done is grate for small dev teams or individual developers. They can create a game get the money they need and then make better games. This is a chance for people like me to get in to the gaming business without the need to work for anybody which I hate to do. I love both Nintendo and Apple and Apple will make it easier for me to earn money and then develop for Nintendo :)  as I seriously want to do something for the 3DS!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I bet he is talking about handhelds and he is right. I'd rather have an iPhone than a ds.
