Should Developers make more games then just the Genres they specialize in

YES 9 50.00%

NO 9 50.00%

Total:18

I was thinking today that a lot of Developers/Publishers make more games outside of the genres they specialize in.

Like Square-Enix for example who did a lot of other games out side of FF, KH and DQ. and even if they stick to the game Genre should they try to make new series other then there main ones.

BTW I am not only taking about Square-Enix.

Edit sometimes when you do other projects and not just focus on the main series and or genres you can get your mined more focused on developing your main series I believe.

I like devolopers taking risks with new IP's

Like Naughty Dog

All there franchise's are different games all together to there past. like Crash banicoot was an Platformer, Ratchet and Clank was an Futuristic style adventure and Uncharted is an Climatic action adventure game.

That's insomniac I think you mean Jack and Dasxta.

edit other examples are Chrono trigger/Chroro Cross, Parasite Eve.

With insominac, sucker punch and naughty dog were good as they all created new franchies for the ps3 and they were all good. if you keep getting the same game it get boring with year after year of just the same games diffrents story ect.

I just remember Squaresoft and Enix making a lot of different Games at the same time with FF and PE and SAGA and Dawn of Mana and such. keeping designers ideas fresh for the main bread and butter series like FF.

Publishers want to profit , they will have to study markets carefuly (That they aim for) , a game gets accepted then they will profit from it , Modern warfare made so many millions for Activision (if the game followed on previous call of duty's world war stories , it wouldn't be possible to become this big)

It's hard for bethesda or square-enix to be rockstar and vice versa but at least having five world wide selling series won't hurt, If U are Square-enix and U have FF, DQ, & KH . it will not hurt to revive Chrono or parasie eve or any other title and push it up to the ranks of the other

To survive U will need this , because U will try a new project . It will not work, U will end up losing so U have to rely on those big names U have and try as much to keep them as the market wishes

I am a person who follows some of those series and I appresiate it more if they don't repeat themselves, I also would like to see new projects well made (Uncharted was brilliant) , It will ad to your total of Class 1 games and U will be a better publisher

I think so, too.

Look at Bungie, they were pretty much Halo only. Sure they made games before but none of them was as big as Halo and that was their baby for more than 10 years now.

The problem is that it takes bungie 3 years to do a full Halo game and you will only see two of them in one generation. I can understand their need to do something different, but I can see the MS need for another Halo. If Bungie wanted to make another game, MS would not have a Halo for 5 or 6 years. That is too long and would hurt the franchise.

It is the same situation for Polyphony digital and Sony btw. Imagine PD focusing on a totally different project than GT. This would mean no full GT till 2013.

Therfore I like studios like Naughty Dog, Remedy, Insomniac, Rare or Epic Games.

I hope that Lionhead will do something diffrent than Fable tbh. Fable is one of my favourite franchises ever and I love everything about it. So Lionhead is one of the best developers out there IMO. But after 3 awesome Fable games I think they should do something different like a survival game (don't know why I picked this one, I just think they would be good at it) and release it in 2012 and comeback with Fable IV in 2014 on a new machine.

Just my 2 cents.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

yes and no... i think they should stick to one game at first and then maybe after 3 games or so they try to branch out
