Forums - General - America ignored Iraqi torture

Iraqis tortured other Iraqis but people concentrate their blaim on America?

The liberal world is insane.

Oh it's the Iraqis fault for doing the torture, but to be honest nobody (not even us liberals) is naive enough to think that they wouldn't be torturing and the suchlike.

People are only blaming America for seemingly ignoring it and also for burying evidence and statistics. People strangely have higher expectations of a first world democracy like America than a country like Iraq.

C'mon. Stuff like this is common for the US. I mean, this country was pretty much founded after Europeans came into the land and killed off all the natives.

- US kills of and displaces Natives

- US attacks and invades Mexico

- US drops not one, but two atomic bombs in Japan.

- US funds the dictatorship in El Salvador that went around killing innocents. US of course claimed no such thing and even didn't give Salvadoran refugees temporary citizenship until much later.

- US invades Iraq, gets rid of Saddam, then stays to steal the oil and resources with the excuse of "weapons of mass destruction."

- US is continuing the same BS in Afghanistan. Remember those 33 miners who were saved? Yeah, that machinery was made from resources found only in Afghanistan.

Not only that, but the US is responsible for the birth of the Taliban because they aided Afghanistan in the Cold War only so that the Soviets would face defeat there. Once the Soviets left Afghanistan, the US practically left Afghanistan wrecked with destruction without any support for rebuilding the nation. This led to angered citizens because they knew that the US used them to defeat the USSR, and to the eventual birth of the Taliban. And now the US is busy going "oops" and killing off thousands of innocents because of the idiotic and selfish moves they made.

You forgot the most evil of evils on that list

- US made Xbox 360 and is using it to take over the vidoegame market in the world, killing off other conosle sales. Europe is at a stalemate. Good thing Japan doesnt care so much because the US defeated them in WWII and is well aware of their evil deeds.

The US is Evil indeed... ~_n

No kidding. Well, it is Iraqis doing the torturing, not Americans. Or do you seriously equal ignoring someone else's torturing as morally as bad as the torturing itself?

For once, concentrate on the important issue. Criticise the criminals! This self-hating mentality of the West is sick and twisted and is destroying us.

According to my feminist friends I'm a big chauvinist pig if I ignore a woman in a heated debate while the Iraqi wife beater is a victim of an unfair society.

Firstly, no I don't hold ignoring somebody elses torture as bad as somebody doing torture. I'm just a realist and realise that the Iraq security forces were going to resort to torture - it's how it has been done in Iraq for a long time. The only people with the ability to change that situation (the Americans and other coalition forces) ignored it instead as it was easier.

So why criticise America? Because the only people who could stop the tortue happening in Iraq are the occupying countries, instead they ignore it. Criticising the torturers isn't going to get anywhere - the Iraqis are quite capable of ignoring outrage in the West. The American government on the other hand is not, if there is enough pressure on the American government about this then perhaps they will in turn pressure the Iraqis (over whom they hold considerable influence) and actually make a difference.

So in short, criticising the Iraqis about this would have no effect while criticising the Americans might just have some.

Edit: Also if you ignore a woman in a debate because she's a woman, then maybe that description fits. Doesn't make you anywhere near as bad as a wife beater no matter what country or culture they're from.
