but politics aside i just find it funny that people poll the most hated country, are their people standing on street corners around the world asking which country you hate the most or do the representatives in the united nations vote every month

They do polls in various countries of peoples opinions of other countries.

I like the US, but the fact that is some many shady stuff I acknowledge that.

Hilary Clinton and Kathleen Sebelius apologized for what happened in Guatemala in the 1940's. when the US did the barbaric and deliberate act of inoculating prisoners, soldiers and mental patients with the killer disease syphilis without their knowledge or permission.

I'm pretty sure anybody in this thread already knows about that.

Although, you gotta put a lot of the blame on Guatamala there though.  Afterall their government agreed to the trials... I'm pretty sure for a large sum of money.

I'm actually surprised they didn't tell them though.  I mean they're prisoners... they're controlled by the state anyway, figure you could get more helpful information via telling them.

Oh, another fun fact... most modern surgery comes from mexico (or used to) via clinics that offered new treatments to people who couldn't afford medical teratment anyway... this is done because the FDA is too slow at approving new studies and it actually helps get FDA approval I think... having cases of it working in other countries.

Oh, and I'm not saying any of this isn't horrible.  It's just expected and should be realized is going to happen whenever these kinds of things are done in the first place.

It's like people who complain about innocnet's dieing during war.  Collateral damage isn't a rarity it's common place.  Even the smartest bomb isn't going to blow everything up but innocents.  Even the best trained group of soldiers are going to torture, kill and rape.

I mean hell, does anyone actually think various US soldeirs didn't rape, murder or torture people?  No doubt in my mind it happened... at best we could hope they were discharged but under different pretexts... at worse they may of just been left in their units.  That's going to happen with any military in any country in the world... and you are going to try and cover it up, because all it does otherwise is give the other side more reason to fight.

Like I said, it's why these situations aren't worth it.

C'mon. Stuff like this is common for the US. I mean, this country was pretty much founded after Europeans came into the land and killed off all the natives.

- US kills of and displaces Natives

- US attacks and invades Mexico

- US drops not one, but two atomic bombs in Japan.

- US funds the dictatorship in El Salvador that went around killing innocents. US of course claimed no such thing and even didn't give Salvadoran refugees temporary citizenship until much later.

- US invades Iraq, gets rid of Saddam, then stays to steal the oil and resources with the excuse of "weapons of mass destruction."

- US is continuing the same BS in Afghanistan. Remember those 33 miners who were saved? Yeah, that machinery was made from resources found only in Afghanistan.

Not only that, but the US is responsible for the birth of the Taliban because they aided Afghanistan in the Cold War only so that the Soviets would face defeat there. Once the Soviets left Afghanistan, the US practically left Afghanistan wrecked with destruction without any support for rebuilding the nation. This led to angered citizens because they knew that the US used them to defeat the USSR, and to the eventual birth of the Taliban. And now the US is busy going "oops" and killing off thousands of innocents because of the idiotic and selfish moves they made.

I completely agree 100% with everything you've been saying in this thread...I wish more people would realize and understand this!

Or was it that the best trained soldiers were just smart enough to not take pictures.

This will even happen with the best trained soldiers.  Not in a huge abu graib insident nessessairly.... but you put people in a situation where they are being bombed and attacked on a daily basis, never completely at ease... and you put them in charge of the husbands, wives, children and even their co-conspirators... and you don't think even some of the best trained soldiers snap?

The stresses of war can even make the best trained well intentioned people do terrible things they regret for the rest of their lives.

Man, i'm very pessimistic today.  Probably too much reading about the ins and outs of what various republican and democratic politicians are doing for the elections.

You know your in trouble when the Democrats are making unfounded xenophobic attacks.

Eh, I think the top soldiers are generally conditioned well enough not to snap. Not to say they don't have issues, they just generally don't manifest in such awful ways. 'course, you could be right - I'm mostly just going by the fact that most of the major issues have been involving reservists and the like.

Also I find American politics appalling. It's a system that is in serious need of major reform. NZ politics may be boring and uneventful, but at least its broadly functional.

Yep, but good luck reforming something that the politicians benefit from.  It'd be like tasking the pimps to stop illegal prostiution.

But that's off topic so i'll leave it at that.
