It will do it rather easy. Watch out ps2, wii is coming for you.

People just seem to think that the botton is going to magically drop out for Wii sales, like everyone on earth is going to decide to stop buying a Wii at the same time. Consoles that are strong enough to clear 100 million units will obviously have very strong legs as well..
As was mentioned here I believe, many of PS2's sales came AFTER its peak year. A large chunk of its success was its legs; its endurance. Which is what Wii should have as well, and there is really no reason to believe otherwise, unless Nintendo should prematurely cut its life by releasing a new console too soon, which would be a foolish move. But even then, the Wii would still sell just like PS2 did after PS3's launch.
People point to the fact that the Wii has seemed to have past its peak relatively early, but that really means little in the grand scheme of things. What really counts is the endurance of the console. If it passes its peak in year 3 but goes on to have 2 more years of 15 plus million consoles sold (average) and another 3 years of 10 plus million consoles sold, just like that you've added another 60 million and the peak no longer really matters.
This joke thread aside I give the wii a 50 50 chance to reach the ps2
The Source Quote:
It should clear 100 million rather easily - its 7m or so ahead of PS2 in the USA alone over the same number of months and thats at a higher price (granted Wii has more bundles, but I think customers look at the sticker price more than the 'value' usually).
Not reaching 100 mil is a wii hater wet dream

Mine is since launch and still looks good. |
All things considered I'm glad the wii is durable. There's been no red-ring or massive online freak-out erasing memory and whatnot. Of course there was Metroid Other M...but that is a mess all it's own.
i think it is pretty much assured of reaching 100 million but i don't think that it can reach the PS2 level (but will be reasonably close) because of the release of the next gen. of consoles. which i believe will be later than most others think (very late '12-early '13)

If it goes down to 150$ it will, and they will still be raking in a nice profit. double win!

Has there been any reports of wii breaking down now? I'm not sure I know anybody who's wii is breaking down from over usage, even those who play it constantly. |
Mine is breaking down. Through a combination of years of being stepped on, and my drunken friends (who used gamecube cotrollers for Mario kart) managing to pull on their controllers and drop it off the table, the disc drive is starting to make some worrying noises. I won't be buying a 2nd one though, my parents have a Wii and so does one of my housemates. Wherever I am I can just use someone else's Wii.

I think he mistaken the Wii with the Playstation (1, 2 and 3) that used to don't aged well to push customer buy the newer slim line and inflate unit sales number
But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.
I agree all my Nintendo consoles have been durable. I am up to my third ps2. I have mates who are only Sony gamers who are up to their 5th and 6th consoles.
