A magnitude 5 aftershock was nothing to the shock Jennifer Graham got when she returned home on Tuesday.

She walked into the bathroom to wash her hands - and found an envelope containing $3000 behind the basin taps, The Press reported.

She thought that there had been a break-in but then quickly realised burglars don't leave presents.

The mystery was solved when police tracked down the house's former owner, who said he hid the money in the house before he moved out five years ago.

He told police that he was in the habit of stashing cash around the place, up to about $3000 at a time.

Graham thought the money had been hidden behind the bathroom mirror, and the envelope dislodged by the aftershock.

The money was returned to the man.

I like to think of myself as a pretty honest person, but I'd be very tempted to take this windfall. If I immediately knew who the money belonged to I'd give it back, just like I'd leave all the money in a wallet if I'd found it and give it in to the cops. But having an unidentified envelope full of cash fall into my lap without any idea of where it came from seems like it's OK to keep it. Whoever left it there isn't really missing it are they?

If it was a huge wad of cash, like $10K or more I'd be thinking it might be some drug money or other money obtained by criminal means, so I'd probably report really large sums to the police. 'Cause last thing I want is some nasty crook rocking up and kneecapping me because I'd spent his/her horde of cash.

If I knew who the money belonged to I'd give it back

If I didn't I'd keep it and get presents for myself!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

No. Even if I knew who it belonged, unless it was family or friends.

I'd try my best to give it back. If i am unable (like no info) then what can i do? buy something cool for myself that's what!:D

I'd immediately think it was some sort of prank by some friend and it was fake money, or real money with a set up trap.

I'd keep it - too much work to find the owner. If it was in a wallet or something with ID, then I probably would have.

I'd keep it, when buying a house it means you bought everything that's in the house the day you move in.

Im sure the end result would be a little different if the new owner found a ton of drugs and weapons then reported to police; surely the previous owner would deny owning that lol

Heck no, I'd probably keep it all. XD

I'd probably keep it just due to the unlikelyhood of finding the true owner... I mean...

"Hey when you lived there did you often leave amounts of money in your house upwards of $3,000?"

What are the chances he says no?  Or anyone does who lived their before.

I'd just set it aside and give people like 3 years to get into contact with me or so.  Or till I was about to starve, whichever came first.
