lol awesome. you're a inspiration to all of us who lack the balls to rip apart 600$ machines.

i'd do some backups though just for safe-keeping. i've heard several stores of fixed up ps3's not always lasting too long.

lol thanks.  I figured since it was dead, and waaaaay out of warranty (its a 60 gig launch unit) I had nothing to lose.  I would never have done this to a working machine, or even a dead one still under warranty.

And yeah, my next step is to back up all my saves and deactivate my PSN account, along with delete all of my music/pictures/games/etc.

I have a plan for this PS3...

My reaction:

After going through all that and fixing it, your reaction should've been much more epic...

I know!  but this was the best gif I had for the situation.

Actually now that I think about it, my reaction was more like this:

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Congratulations dude.

Just be cautious now, I did this trick with my 40gb out of warranty and it was a no go : YLOD was still there.

You can't be sure this PS3 will last for very long

Congrats.

EPIC WIN!!!

good work

forgive my technical ignorance but what was wrong with it

new paste and reflowed(whats that) is that what you did

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

A little heads up, it's probably not permanent. There's a good chance in a months time it'll YLOD again.

It got the yellow light of death, so I looked online to find a solution.  I admit that I also have almost no technical knowledge, and pretty much just followed some youtube videos.

From my understanding (and anyone please correct me if I'm wrong), "re-flowing" melted some of the connections on the board and reset them into their proper place.  To re-flow it I held a heat gun that got up to 700 degrees over the the RSX and the CELL.  And 2 other spots...as the youtube video instructed.
