Forums - Gaming - Someone gave a presentation on Video Games in class

I would have called BS on him. Look, it's a university course and he at least needs to get some basic facts right. It's exactly the same as how I'd call BS on someone who claimed the Earth was flat in a physics course - it's just plain wrong and doesn't in any way even remotely resemble the truth.

You don't even want to know what it's like being a Pre-Med student in my general education classes. The theology classes are the worst. I took a feminist theolgy class (bad idea!) and this was an actual exchange between me and the professor:

Prof: And of course, if a women wanted to be stronger, she could go to a wieght room and get just as much muscle mass as quick as any guy could!

Me: *raises hand* Uh actually no... testosterone enhances protein growth. Also men have more hemoglobin per unit of blood volume, about 10% more. Thus, men need more calories but have better stamina when exercising and can thus get more out of any exercise session

Prof: Ah yes, the stereotypes put into the media by men.

Me: There not sterotypes, there facts from my human physiology class. Just like how women have wider thighs for childbirth but a side effect is it isn't as conducive to sprinting as a man's waist/leg confirmation.

Prof: *looks around and laughs* See class, here is a perfect example of why men are wrong. Men and women are created equal, its a known fact.

I snapped my pencil in half.

ROFL did that really happen?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I gotta tell you the worst thing ever was walking into a Gamestop and having argue(LITERALLY!) with the guy who insisted Metroid Prime was on the Xbox. I don't think I've ever wanted to hit somebody so bad in my life..

Edit: Allow me to elaborate, the guy completly refused to look in their computer under Game Cube to find the game and insisted it was on the xbox and they didn't have it.(I argued with him for 35 minutes before finally leaving)

I've had many many similarly awful experiences in Gamestops. The funniest things are their new commercials with the whole "A guy at Gamestop told me" slogan. The day I meet someone at Gamestop who knows anything about games is the day hell freezes over.

Yes, but even GS employees dim when compared to the utterly amazing ignorance of some people in local stores. My friends dad once went to buy a new digital tuner for his dish, and the store clerk came back with a VHS and a LAN cable for Scart...

I'd be out the door in no less than 5 seconds if it was prior to the last drop date. No sense wasting your time on that crap.

My girlfriend was actually in a "women's studies" class last semester, and she, being female, said it was the biggest load of BS she'd ever heard. I opened her textbook and selected a few passages at random -- all of them sounded like something you'd read at The Onion. It was that bad.

Damn, that sucks. I guess I got lucky when I had a great women's studies class.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

There is no need for a concept like "feminism." There's a concept called "equality" which means that everyone has equal rights, male, female, black, white, whatever. If you think you need to be a feminist, try being an "equalist" instead.

It always amuses (and sometimes even frightens me) when people let their opinions overcome well-known and patently obvious facts. That class you mentioned is just one example. Men and women deserve equal rights and opportunities - but it is not sexist to say something like "men are generally taller than women" because it is in fact true and has nothing to do with the worth or value of either sex.

There is a saying "be open minded, but not so open minded your brain falls out". Some overly PC people need to learn it and use it.
