as we know sony never called the new PS3 ,PS3 slim unlike the PS2 slim which was called slim by Sony.So will they ever release the true PS3 slim for $199 ? if so ,would it be around next year's holiday?

With so many games next year they can just drop the price by 50$ in 2011 then in 2012  they can intriduce the slim for $199.That's what i think,,,what do you think?

the purpose is to sell console AND to make money AND EVENTUALLY to sell your competitor

Sony is making to 2 most important point right now, so all is fine for them

I do believe that if the 360 price is reduced then Sony may try to do a special offer like "50$ back if u send back the recept" as we have seen in the past by both Sony and MS

I think it could possibly not have another price drop in years. What I do see happening is better bundling, particularly Move bundling. It's just my opinion but I can see the price staying the same with the move starter kit being slowing phased in and included in the currect price. I could also forsee a free Playstation Plus three month trial being included with every new console to get new customers used to having the feature and hopefully improve uptake. Sony finally has decent sales on the PS3 and is making a profit. I can't see them wanting to rock the boat too early.

Basically I think they now have several long term viable options to keep console sales high without having to take a large financial hit on hardware again. It's a good position to be in.

Well it used to be like this:

2007 PS3 sees a price-cut --> outsells Xbox 360
2008 Xbox 360 sees a price-cut --> outsells PS3
2009 PS3 sees a price-cut  (and slim) --> outsells Xbox 360
2010 Xbox 360 gets a slim --> outsells the PS3

So MS still need to cut the price first to keep on playing tit-for-tat.

In 2011 both will see a price-cut IMO.

PS3: 250 USD standalone / 299 USD with Move
Xbox 360: 299 USD with 250 GB and Kinect / 199 4GB with Kinect / 149 USD 4GB (as long as supply lasts) / 199 USD 250GB (as long as supply lasts)

they did it with psp we had psp2000,2001,2002 pspgo etc etc, plus you are right they don't call the new PS3 a"PS3 slim" so maybe they will.

All 3 Consoles are going to have price cuts next year.

MS will drop the 250G to $249 US first sometime next year, widen the gap a bit, then Nintendo will do a $50 price cut and then Sony will make 160G $249 US to reduce the gap the X360 created when it got the price cut. So for example if the Gap was 5.5 Million before X360 price cut, it'll become a 6 Mil Gap after $50 price cut. Once the PS3 gets a price cut then that's when they'll close the gap back to 5.5 Mil.

That's my guesses.

The REAL PS3 Slim will actually be called as such at $199

Last year's new PS3 was just a whole rebranding.
