Forums - Gaming - What Makes Xbox live worth it?

Because PSN is Free and Xbox live is not means nothing, somebody is paying for the service. Ask yourself this, do you think PSN will be free for the next generation of console?

For me, Halo : Multiplayer alone is worth more than $60 a  year. Believe me, if Sony and Nintendo can charge the same, they would do it. They are business like Microsoft.

What do you mean by "can"? Of course they can.

No they cant, people are suing Sony for taking away Linux support can you imagine if they suddenly decided to charge people to play games. There would be law suits everywhere.

Get off your sony glasses for a minute.

OK from a Southern Hemisphere liver I am 100 percent with Squilliam where Xbox 360 is exceedingly smoother on the 360. When I was playing Modern Warfare 2 with my brother in Law on my PS3, when a single american, sometimes english man ie anyone not from Australia/New Zealand/ Asia (to an extent) they got shot till they left.

Not because we didnt like them but it killed the speed of the server. And if that person then got the Server (which pisses me off about COD games) we all had to quit and join a different game. Same lag was experience on Little Big Planet.

In Xbox 360 land I decided to play multiplayer on Gears of War 2. Now I was testing out hoard and 3 americans joined in, and i was thinking here we go and it ran so smooth it was insane. (I was a late night player because of being full-time). In fact  most of the people I have on my Xbox friends list are people from North America/Europe/UK. Because its smooth... and when I play. I have had the same experience with Crackdown 2, Transformers Demo, Spec Ops beta, Cod WAW I could continue.

Smoothness is different for other people but people in the Southern Hemisphere (OCEANIA AREA) we need Xbox servers. PSN is not nearly up to that standard in the Australian region. And if you think it is internet speed I ran 30mbps Cable internet from Telstra (people from Australia dont like to admit it but it is the most realiable ISP down here) and it was doing it in PSN. The lagginess. It has always pissed me off. One of the reasons why I dont like the PS3 is because of that reason.

That right there is worth the purchase price alone.

Plus there are 20mil independent Subscribers to Gold, there is a bloody good reason for it. And what Squil probably meant by demos is gold users get some exlusively first, as well as other features that are on the xbox.

well there are alot of faults in your post, first off there is 1 million xbox's in Australia and only less than 500,000 are connected to live while almost 100% of ps3 owners are connected because they can just for the sake of it.

game like MW2 DONT RUN ON SEVERS. games like MAG, Socom, BFBC2 ect run on Dedicated severs. and besides PS3 MW2 has extremely good P2P matchmaking now and for a while now on MW2 and ran very smooths Months before xbox got it (i dont know if they have)

and you are very bais since you have 30 Mbps downloads and majority of australians have less than 5 mbps. i have 3 mbps i i rarely , i mean RARELY lag on any of SCE dedicated sever games. So it must be you

but there is NO DIFFERENCE when it comes to LAG between xbox lie and PSN they both have there same about of lag problems since Online gaming isn't controlled by Live or PSN but by the Devoloper/Publisher so just nulls your comments down.

also you say there is 20 million subscribers well since they bought the xbox they have to get it to use the dam box

sorry but i have an PS3 and an xbox and loath the reason to pay online, and that reason is why i have ditched by xbox majority of the time for PS3 equally good free online service. trust me i have tried both and i dont feel unhappy with what i have or feel jealous of Live members features have.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

bais? i think you may mean bias and what does bias have to do with internet connection... i am very puzzled. if you are saying base. I was in Footscray in Melbourne when i got telstra cable. Telstra cable is quite common for that speed in melbourne...

But there is no difference for you but there is massive difference for EVERYBODY, no exception that I have spoken to about it. I don't know if it is just dedicated servers but for some reason Xbox is smooth for me and PS3 aint.

I honestly havent turned on my ps3 in a few weeks because well to be honest i have multi games and the net speed aint quick enough

I  am running 24MB/s ADS2 PLUS from Internode here in Melbourne and I have my PS3 on a WIFI network and I get no lag most of the time PSN. EG when playing SSF4 on PSN I get no lag playing People in the UK or the US or Japan but when playing people in Australia it is like a slide show most of the time. and with STEAM Integration soon PSN will be ahead of XBL for the most part.

Edit: for anybody not shore it is your Ping and not your Download Speed that determines weather you lag in game or not.

The PSN keeps signing me out for no reason, but XBox Live does not.  I appreciate that stability while I'm in a deathmatch.

Its the other way around for me.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

@hikaruchan that is pretty bad, and somewhat odd.

Yes i do, in fact im pretty sure its one of Play-stations Selling points.

Smart Men answer questions, Wise men ask questions.
Gamers play games, True Gamers support Gaming

bottom line is 360 owners pay for live as its the only way they can play games online. they have no choice.

trust me, if online play was free but you only had to fork out for having the extras. only minimal people would renew a gold membership.

imo psn is the better service minus few comms features, i can play online when eve i want to and not have any charge.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

The main reason:  It keeps Microsoft in business and stops them from bleeding money.  Plus, it was a charged service since the early 2000's so they just kept the same price.  Sony and Nintendo came and offered it for free but that's because they didn't think like the Joker from the last Batman movie (If you're good at something, never do it for free--Microsoft is good at killing Batman).  But you want a list so here you go:

  • Cross game chat: Talk to anybody no matter what they're playing
  • Advanced Netflix:  Watch a movie with your friend at the same time.  Their avatar will be sitting with yours (similar to the theater in Playstation home except without the sucking).
  • Better Matchmaking based on skill levels (True Skill)
  • Dedicated Community Events:  For example, Gaming With Fame, Ladies Night, Family Night, and dedicated game nights (Like Gears of War 2 All Night Long).
  • Demos for every single solitary Arcade game (not just random ones like on the PS3).
  • Tons and tons more content for downloading including exclusive FREE programs like "The Guild".
  • Music Videos
  • Dedicated Twitter App
  • Dedicated Facebook App
  • Dedicated Last FM App (I can't get it to work on the PS3--can you?)
  • IGN Strategy and help videos streaming instantly in the main menu
  • The ability to re-download purchased content like TV Shows (Did you know that if you delete a purchased movie/TV show from your PS3 without copying it to another HDD, YOU LOSE IT FOREVER?--I found this out earlier this year.  I'll never see my beloved Black Dynamite again!)
  • ESPN and Hulu Plus (coming soon--but I believe Hulu Plus is also going to be on the PS3)
  • "Inside Xbox" streaming video that tells little known facts and answers questions about the console.
  • The ability to chat with game developers of certain games.
  • Free chocolat milk dispenser.
  • Disc Free Netflix (coming soon to PS3)

Okay, that last one about the chocolate milk was made up and I admit some of these are free to Silver members too.  But I believe (but can't prove) that if the Gold guys weren't paying for it, Silver would suck a lot more.  Plus there's the discounts, deals, fully downloadable retail games, and other things I don't think are worth mentioning.  So there.  Hope I answered your question.  I wasn't kidding when I made the first post in this thread.
