Forums - Microsoft - Xbox live price increase is a slap in the face to PSN & Sony

He's not a fanboy of any kind...he just likes to stir the pot and make the others explode like a nuclear....its all for the reaction my dear Watson.

To some extent, the wii is being backhand by Balmer and Co as well. First of all Microsoft has more money than nintendo and sony. MS DOES NOT NEED to charge for online, but they do. I once asked my uncle why a dog licks his balls, his response "because he can." Same thing goes for MS. Yes, xbox live offers unparralleled, unmatched, and unrivaled features. But is it really worth $50-60 a year? Well, it doesn't matter what I think because MS IS GONNA DO WHAT THEY WANT. And let me tell you right now, MS is NOT scared of sony or nintendo. PROOF: They have the balls to INCREASE the price of something their competition is GIVING AWAY FOR FREE. Brazenly, MS rolls ahead with price increases in an economic depression. Patcher said a few years back that if the PSN takes off, xbox live will go free. Faced with increased competition, the opposite has happened. Microsoft is saying to ninty and sony, we don't care what you give away or do with your online networks, we aren't scared of losing customers to you, and we will do what we want. Why??? Because they can

Before anyone tries to get cute and say "well actually it's a slap in the face to xbox owners" I will politely tell you that you are wrong.  Why??  Because xbox liver is the best, most integrated online COMMUNITY!!  And the enormous amount of people playing online prove this beyond the shadow of a doubt.

My PC says hello.

I wish mine did that. All it ever says is game.exe has shut down.

I'm sorry, I had to do that. OT, I'm not quite sure about a slap to PSN; For Blazblue andDemon's Souls it works absolutely fine, bar DS's crappy co-op system. But that isn't PSN's fault. I'd pay for PSN, maybe not as much, if I had to after playing DS online.

As for the Wii, I'm still waiting to be able to play SSBB online without ridiculous lag.

As for XBL price increase, I just had to renew my subscription and did it for $29.99 because of the deal they have. So I'm good for the next year. I'd imagine that for people newly renewing though that is more like a kick to the face then a slap.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Apology accepted.  Some PC's blow, some don't.  And a select few hand out tissue to the people with bad PC's.

I'm sorry his tissue can't reach you...

Edit: Insert horrible self touching joke here.

This. I don't understand people who want to pay for something that's free everywhere else.

Proudness...?

When you compare PSN versus XboxLive, XboxLive may have more features (debatable because PSN also got features not found on XboxLive) but from a technical standpoint, PSN works as good as XboxLive, the online gaming experience is just as smooth on both platforms.

I am at a loss of words.... From an European point of view, you still have to go a long way to become a "critical Consumer"... being proud that a company can charge you more while a similar service is otherwise available for free... where is your personal gain in there? Some could argue its a kind of ripoff.....

Free != good, I'd rather pay for windows than keep using linux.

Windows vs. Linux isn't the same argument as PSN vs. Xbox Live. Just because it costs more, doesn't mean it's better. http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/food/how-much-would-you-pay-for-the-best-water-on-earth-1957446/

Think for a second... Why would you get Windows over Linux? Because of the compatability of the programs, and the simplicity, right? [at least, that's what the majority of PC users think] Well, the only difference between PSN and Xbox live is Party support, Cross Game chat, and maybe Halo or any of the other Microsoft 1st party games. Xbox Live isn't more 'simple' than PSN, and the only 'compatibility issues' [comparatively speaking with the PC] are the 1st party games that work on one console, but not the other.

OT: The most probable main four reasons why people would pay for Xbox live is that 1) They bought the Xbox first, and they don't want another console. 2) Halo in itself attributes for the majority of the Live population, but the 1st party games. 3) The pride concept. They're full fledged fanboy, and refuse to believe that any system other than the Xbox is superior, and subconsciously tell themselves that Live is better because you have to pay for it. 4) Their friends all have an Xbox, so they get an Xbox too, which creates a chain reaction that makes THEIR friends get an Xbox. I don't know if I should count this, because it happens on the Ps3 as well.

That's not the same. You pay once for Windows and not every month. You can't play games on Linux either, well... not the same as on windows overall, so that comparison is not a good one.

For some XBL is probably worth the money, for some it's not. You mostly pay for playing online on XBL, but that's free on PSN and works just as fine and fluid as on XBL, so it's not worth the money for me and probably many others.

But as I said in the beginning, this thread is just unnecessary because it isn't a slap in the face to Sony in any way.

BTW: expensive != good either...

Mate Xbox live is a service that has been in the making for 8 years and it costs money. It should be better. However it only has a few features over PSN that justify that 60 bucks a year and if MS didn't have those features patented then Sonys free service would have had them a long time ago. If I was getting slapped in the face like that then I too would make a thread saying it was the people on the other service thats the ones getting slapped so I can keep some dignity.

In reality mate PSN is catching up to Xbox live with features so that 60 bucks a year is becoming less justifiable for them and if you think no its not, then just look back to the start of this gen and look at the features Xbox live had over PSN. Now look at what it has now over PSN and tell me they are not closing the gap.
