I think industry expectations were too high.
And Move is two years too late.
It just comes off as an HD Wii clone at a time when the public interest in Wii has waned. Motion control is so 2006. Even Nintendo isn't selling motion as a selling point with Metroid/Kirby/Donkey Kong as it's main titles. Wii Party makes excellent use of the Wii controller but that's not what they are really marketing, they are marketing fun with friends/family.
Nice that Sony finally caught up to Nintendo but at this point, it won't grab public attention IMO. At least not with a bunch of Wii rip-off games and Move patched or shoe-horned into other games. They needed to show something new and revolutionary in gameplay and in that respect, they have failed. Move is better, it's just not a game changer.
| ioi said: Yeah but your poll is reading as though Pachter is personally saying that in his opinion Move didn't do well. He's not, he is saying that a bunch of firms made projections for their various clients (investors mainly) as to how well Move will perform and according to NPD it didn't do as well as expected. |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Pachter one of the people forming those projections in the first place, and for a major institute as well? He may not be the sole person to "blame," but isn't it likely that he contributed to the overestimation in the first place?
Wait, did Patcher just violate NPD's new policy by revealing how much the PS3 sold? 312,000 is not bad. Wii is really in trouble it seems now.

Good that anyone else noted that one. As I wrote above: Seems that Pachter is still underperforming as far as his brain is concerned.
People are still listening to Pachter?
This is how it works - just invert whatever pachter says and you have the truth-
Move sold well, but Move and Kinect will not drive HW sales this holiday. =)

I wouldn't actually be surprised if it sold in US below expectations - or at least analyst expectations at any rate. Anyway time will tell and the holiday season will, as noted in the quote, be the real test for both Move and Kinect.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Either way, whats the alternative for Sony, releasing the Move and not reaching their sales expectations, or not releasing it and having NO copies sold. i doubt Sony are upset about this, Move is just an add on, people still buy the console for the games and blu ray, etc, as long as Move is always selling then its worth it and its a success, it was never meant to be a mega success 2 weeks in.
but imo when some of the exclusives like Socery come out it has the potential to move hardware, not to mention the wildcard that is Wii cross platform games, which can afford the luxury of a HD upscale on the PS3, unavaliable on the WIi. so there is potential there, definitly.
Sony made the mistake of thinking it was the motion controls that the expanded audience wanted, when really it is the GAMES. Motion controls will not make a difference if they games that use them are largely the same. Sure they have a couple of expanded audience games like Sports Champions, but very few games like these.
