I was reading IGN's review of Super Mario Sunshine, and noticed that they gave the graphics only an 8.0!

If you ask me, graphically, it's one of the best GameCube games?

Why so low?

The quality of the textures in the game (for instance the buildings in Piazza Delphino) isn't high. Also, in certain parts of the game the framerate could drop drastically.

If you ask me, 8.0 for Sunshine is fair. The animations are well done, but the overall quality of the graphics doesn't justify a higher score.

The textures seem fine to me, and so does the frame rate....

An 8.0 for the game in 2002 is waaay too low...

They also only gave Wind Waker a 9.0 in 2003....when I still think it's the best looking game ever graphically.

i didnt play it at 2002 so i dont know if it deserved for its time but i played in in 05 and if it was released that year i would have agreed

8.0 graphic score for Sunshine seems about right to me.
The game just doesn't look beautiful
neither in technical nor artistic point of view.

8.0 isnt fair.

Super Mario Sunshine graphics are really not that impressive when you compare it to the likes of Star Fox Adventures.

I would have given it an 8.5, but it is a subjective review, and 8.0 is pretty good. I think it is fair, but not what I would have given it.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker meets Crysis...

I gave an online review at 1up.com back when Sunshine came out (it wasn't even called 1-up back then). I recall my headline being something like "Forget about Graphics and Violence. Do you Wanna Have Fun?" I went on to talk about how Sunshine's graphics wouldn't blow you away, but how it was the most fun you'd have all year. This was back when the game launched, and I am far from an expert.

The game had some nice touches, especially it's water effects, but there were times when the camera would just say "Awww, F*** it!". An 8.0 seems fair.

Art Style > Lighting Effects, Polygons, Textures etc.

Who would argue with me if I said I reckon Yoshi's Island on the SNES to be the best looking game ever made?

As for Mario Sunshine, I think it's an awesome looking game, extremely vibrant and a wonderfully coloured title. It's not exactly unique in it's visual style but great nonetheless, tbh an 8 sounds pretty much spot on for me.
