PSPhone is a terrible idea, PSP iPod Touch is the way to go

I would say no I mean really look at the current smart phone market ATM. Models are refreshed about once a year or two with more powerful hardware, SONY probably won't want to do this as, if they focus on high end games as early models will eventually not be able to play new games. And if they don't the PSPhone will soon fall behind the competition in specs and features.

But iOS is already losing market share so maybe if apple pull another iPhone external antenna fiasco and android continues to improve and windows phone 7 turns out to be great, the iPhone might not be the big enemy any more as chinks are starting to appear in the iPhone brand.

No, because of a simple reason: The apple fans just won't switch over. Ain't gonna happen.

And another thing: You don't really believe that a PSP sort of phone like mentioned in the OP would only cost 250$. This would rather be in a region around 500$.

I'm a true Sony fan so I'm not afraid to speak my mind.  A PSP Phone would be so awesome that it would kill the iPhone, the movie industry, Coca Cola, and Ford because it would be so awesome and the power of the Cell is so amazing that all people would want to do is talk on their PSP Phones all day.  I didn't choose "Yes" or "No".  I took a permanent marker, wrote the option "Hell Fucking Yeah!" on my computer monitor, and checked that one.  Don't underestimate Sony.

certainly not! it might do well but the main reason why apple is successful with the iphone is because people are able to create apps for it so it will appeal to more people and i highly doubt sony will allow that, and even if they do apple already has a HUGE headstart so it would pointless....

So it appears I was right, all the rumours were true. The PSPhone will launch according to Kotaku and will feature the Android OS. Though Kotaku says this isn't PSP2 it is most definatly a PlayStation phone. It appears Sony is going to spread the PlayStation brand into three pillars, Home , Handheld and cellular.

Can this baby compete with Apple?

No, not at all. It'll sell like the PSPgo. Probably worse.

I'd be surprised if major cell phone companies actually sell it.
