Anime is so lame. Its just freaks with spiky hair 10x the size of their head. Only good one was Pokemon.

really bad generalization. Beings the characters in my favorite anime don't have that.

Lol i know, I'm sure they're not all that way but the majority that I've seen are.

I just watch the Naruto 1 so I wouldn't know >:)

@OP

I love anime. It's just a bit of geek culture, nothing to get upset about. Now if you ever reach the state where people's hobbies wind you up to the point where you have have vent about it on a console war sales forum then you have to start worryi......

Oh snap!

(Just messing with you! Your avatar is awesome)

I've been watching anime since I was a little kid, I'm not entrenched into the culture and I don't buy into all the merchandising, but I do think anime is in a league of it's own in comparison to other media. I treat anime like I would treat normal TV shows, which means I would sit down and enjoy Death Note in the same way that I would with Law & Order. Some anime can be just as intelligent and thought provoking as books, TV shows and movies, but it sadly falls under the same wing that video games do (only for nerds) and instead everyone generalizes the whole thing.

The worse thing to came out of the whole culture is the whole otaku scene, it's getting disgusting and it only hurts the image of anime. Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangalion, Gantz, Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Full Metal Alchemist and many other great animes are starting to be overshadowed by all this loli, Kawaii, K-ON bullshit, that taint what great anime really is. I sometimes worry that the industry will fall into obscurity, only because it's feeding this otaku niche, instead of attempting to push the other great animes that come along every week.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Seriously,

I see some young guys going all  crazy about japanese cartoons, which according to them "are not cartoons you smartass. IT'S ANIMÉ ! Humpfff..."

If the same cartoons are available in english or their own language, they still prefer to watch the japanese despite not understanding shit about japanese and love to read subtitles. "It's cool to watch shit on an asian language. But I need subtitles. Now excuse me I gotta watch my animé..."

They use nicknames on msn like "Jonathan-kun" ""Phillip-san" or "Amilcar Sensei"

If a cartoon is from Thailand, China, or anywhere else near that, they won't watch. It sucks because is not japanese.

They think as Japan as a nerd, carton-esque country, but they completely ignore that even inside Japan people still look at them as nerds.

Even my 23 year old virgin roommate, which is obese,  and watches japanese animé like is life depends on it.

All of a sudden, they wake up for life and stop watching and never refer about it again with any friends...

I don't get this guys...

You are my new hero of VGChartz. Congratulations!

i was a bit obsessed a while ago :P

But really anime is in a league of its own when it comes to 'cartoons' imo. Im over that obsession phase though. And no Pokemon is by far not the best anime!! wth?!

You have very good taste :D

this thread is based on heavy generalization. There are geeks when it comes to everything. There are those who are obsessed about American comics and cartoons as well. THe major difference I see between anime and cartoons is the diversity and depth you can find in a lot of 'good' anime, not the loli or echchi BS stuff.

I'm a huge fan of anime and manga...I like work simillar to those from Korea and China as well

I like Asian music, East, South you name it. There are some really nice artists in those regions.

Movies, some amazing amazing movies. When it comes to martial art movies there is no one to even come close the movies they make there, same for horror movies.

I like trying out dramas as well when I have time and I have found several good ones

So stop with the generalization....it's utter bs. Most of those who complain have yet to experience good quality manga or mahnwa or even anime.

oh and btw SUBS >>>>>>>>> Dubs hands down (most of the time at least)...reason? Dubs are HORRIBLE quality and they water down the convos as well. Simple as that, not because people think Japanese language is the best thing ever. I can tell you now I have seen english movies dubbed in other languages and they are pretty horrible as well, not because people are crazy about English either.

I agree so bad with this post...

Did you watch an anime called Clannad? (And it's sequel - After Story)

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

They just like the culture, what does it matter. Dubs aren't the greatest, so I can't blame them for not liking it.

Dubs weren't the greatest.  Now they're usually fine.  Unless they go with an overly annoying voice like the one piece guys.

I'd say 80-90% of the time the Japanese voices don't sound as bad soley because peopel can't speak japanese.

Heck, half the time the voices won't even match, you'll get a 14 year old with some deep booming voice.
