Its because Sony does well in countries outside of the main ones. This is their secret weapon, just as Europe was their secret weapon with the PS1.

I really hope their supporting little or developing countries way more than Ninty and MS pays off for them.  Imagine a large market in Brazil, China, etc.?  This could help them next gen. *prays*

For instance, in the Middle East, Africa and Asia this week, PS2 sold the same amount as Wii.  O_o

Yeah, totally pay off. Those are large markets and once the PS3 is cheap enough the sales will really start to rocket. These markets are developing very quickly, in the order of 6-10% per year. These markets are probably the source of all the overall undertracking of PS3 / PSP / PS2 sales etc. They will definately help them next generation, by the time a next gen PS4 is out they may account for 10-20% of overall sales and Sony may account for 70% or more of that growing percentage. Though in the nearer term it is more going to help the PS3 as they get that price down to $199.

Yeah, I've really been noticing more lately how many times Sony gets undertracked comparedto the others.  Perhaps ioi having to adjust every few weeks for unexpected gains in small countries?  Hopefully Sony can pull off a simultaeous release in those places too instead of making them wait.  What a novel strategy lol, you wanna get more sales, make a new market!  In a funny way they are doing what Ninty did in getting casuals and expanding, except Sony is scouring places for more casuals and core players lol.  I'm really interested in this actually.

darth if they are ramping up move production that means nearly all of them 1.5m moves must be almost sold out, which means massive undertracking

And 1.5 Million PS MOVE sold in EU (shipped obviously)

LOL SONY have MAJORLY Overshipped!!!!!!!!!

maybe its undertracked?

Isn't the move controller hard to find over there or is that just here in NA?

It is here.. (Denmark)

Atleast some places.. A place like Fisketorvet (which is a multicomplex mall with a cinema) the standalone controller was nowhere to be found the last I checked. I even asked store personal in some stores and they said they were all out. They did have bundles though... and navcons (surprise)

Check out my game about moles ^

Not really small countries, just sort of countries off the beaten track like India where they reported something like 350,000 sales recently. But yeah, Sony's idea of success does seem to be large unit sales and market share which explains why they are the only console company which has cut the price seemingly for the hell of it. I don't think Microsoft follows this strategy really because they could have cut the price a lot more aggressively and yet they chose not to. Nintendo obviously doesn't do this either.

That does actually appear to be the case.  In Spain they've been tracking the Move Starter Pack alongside other software, and last week the Starter Pack came in 2nd overall while Sports Champions was way down at 10th.

It seems many here refuse to believe that the Move is actually selling very well.

It was essentially penciled in as a failure right off the bat since SONY wasn't going to spend hundred of millions of dollars on advertisement and instead opted for word of mouth to carry it along.

The fact that it is selling good on word of mouth alone is what actually what makes these numbers so impressive.

But they are spending money to advertise it.  Just not as much as some other companies, and it's spread out over a pretty lengthy period of time.

Just look at NA.  We've already had, what, 3-4 different Kevin Butler commercials for Move?  Even Sony's biggest games get a mere one.  And the Coca-cola campaign isn't starting until next month.

I don't watch TV, so I guess that explains why I thought there was little no no advertising.

I have seen Move controler european ad over 10 times already in Polish TV and hell i have seen at least 5 or more times ad of one of our mobile operators who now have plans with PS3 move bundle given to the plan instead of cellphone and strongly pushes it in TV.

But as for 1,5M i think we should consider than perhaps VGC estimation of how many people buy stay alone controler is too low as just controler is hard to find even in online shops.

There might be 1.5 million move controllers shipped, but the userbase MUST be smaller. Software-sales truly prove this.

Sports Champion is the best selling game and way below this number.

I really don't know where Sony is selling the PS3s.

NPD, GfK, Chart track, Media Create and VGC all say something totally different than Sony. Where do they sell the consoles?

It is not UK, NA and Japan for sure.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I remember last year people said the exact same thing about sonys 13 million forecast and they made that number. Now 1 person from Sony gives an interview and says he reckons it will over sell 15 million and you people go into uproar. This is just one guy giving his prediction like you and I do on this website. This isn't Sony coming out and announcing to investers that they are going to sell over there fiscal prediction.

Secondly weather its 1.5 million shipped or 1.5 million sold to customers doesn't matter. Its still 1.5 million units of Move that Sony has sold in europe. A few shops over here are sold out of move controllers so I well believe the sales are undertracked for Move. People are using sports Champions as estimates to how many Moves were sold. Eh people are forgetting that a lot of people bought 2 controllers with Champion sports and some people bought move on its own for hardcore games like MAG and RE5 which support move

just a question but why ramp up production if the move's are not selling lolz, userbase is not smaller and maybe they only bought the controller to try it out with the demos before they decide which game they want, and maybe they can't afford a game in the same month, you obviously have not thought this through lolz

Europe and Japan like immersive technology but US buys into hype.
