Forums - Gaming - Sonic 4 Episode 1 impressions - what do you think?

-Pros:

The level design is great, feels very Sonic-y.

The homing attack. Say what you want, I like it.

There aren't many water levels.

-Cons:

A bit too short.

The physics are a little weird. They're not as bad as many people say, but they do take some getting used to.

The music is nothing compared to the original Genesis games. Sonic 4's soundtrack even pales in comparison to most of the 3D Sonic games. (That's not necessarily a bad thing, but in this case, it is.)

A bit too generous with lives.

His legs are too ta- *Gets rightfully mauled by everyone, who isn't a nit-picky prick*

All in all, it's a great game, and I'm looking forward to Episode 2.

Anyone got the Untouchable trophy/achievement, man i've got so close 3 time now, one time only just lost when the targetting cross hair goes beserk. any tips on when you get him down to that point, it seems so difficult to predict where he will land at the end.

I haven't attempted it yet as I am still to get the 7th emerald and do the speed run on level 1. My guess would be that you'd go as far left as possible and hold the spin dash to the right. As soon as you see the mecha robotnik start slamming down for the final crash, let go of spin dash?

I am more concerned about all those bosses before than his final robo boss.

I just got it this afternoon, after watching some youtube vids, i can tell you that the speed dash thing wont work, there is no margin for error, you have anticipate where it will land, avoid it, but still be close enough to use the homing attack at just the right moment. with that information and some help from youtube perhaps you can avoid going through it again and again.

have no fear for the preceding bosses, i had problems with them at first, but when you learn their patterns you'll be cruising through them, even the 4th one. i havent got all the trophies yet, but i wanted to get that one since the attack pattern of the last boss was still fresh in my mind.

@KylieDog, yes its a bit much, i think £6/$10 would be better, but its still a very good game. and when the later episodes come you can probabily buy them as a package cheaper i think.

Yeah i agree his legs are a bit too tall imo. i wish he looked exactly like in Sonic 3 the other thing is the scale, after i saw that video the OP posted of the fanmade video, i've realised that it wouldve been better to make the scale a bit smaller like the older games so they can pack more detail onto the screen. and yeah the physics could be better.

that aside, the level design is excellent imo, better than the gen games i think. and its still a very fun game.

I don't like it, it's not as fun and the physics are way off compared to the old ones, quiet frankly, it's broken because the momentum is fucked up on many situations so you can't do a lot of the cool shit you were able to and takes much less skill until the last boss.

im not a big sonic fan but im really enjoying this one the lock on makes the game a bit easy but more fun imo, hes not as fast as he was in the old ones which kind of looks funny

Yeah, it makes it pretty fun.

Thats a feature they borrowed from fan made 2D games. In the future, Sega needs to look more at some of these fan made sonic games for inspiration as some of them are mindblowing.

Look at these one...

I can't wait till that game releases, even if it takes years.  That's what Sonic 4 should have been.  Sonic just looks right in that game, as well as his running and jumping animations.  The detail in the levels is just amazing, too.  I hate the starting animation for Sonic running in Sonic 4.  He starts speeding up, but his animation doesn't.  It just looks awkward, and definitely not what the end result of an official Sonic game should be.  I also hate when he does that pathetic falling animation sometimes when you come off of a jump accelerated by a spring, as opposed to continuing running in the air or spinning or doing a flip or anything besides looking like he's falling to his death.  Overall the demo for the game was meh.  I may get it when Sega releases the whole collection of episodes.  Then again, the fan made game may be out by then.

Great game. Best Sonic game since the Sega Genesis. Could have used a little more work, but I love it and i have played it for about 11hrs.

I agree about the music.

Instead of the annoying synth sounds, they should have taken the opportunity to revive the amazing style of the Sonic CD soundtrack.

Or they should have made a sountrack with similar instruments to this.

I LOVE ICELAND!

thought i'd try and get people into this thread again, seeing as more people will have likely bought the game now. so anyone else get the Untouchable trophy/achievement, how did you find it?? looking back, i can see that my heart rate probabily accelerated for about 6 hours that day trying to get it, especailly the final moments. and actully looking back i know we said the music wasnt that good compared to the old ones, but Mad Gear zone actully has an excellent sound track!
