What does he mean everything looks like a winner? The price is ridiculous and it's games look terrible to me imo.

If they look terrible to you, you must not be a gamer anymore. Seeing as the psn avator you have is getting a game for it.

So they were a little bit more impressed than Epic, huh...

Well, unlike Epic... they did actually get to look at the hardware rather then randomly speculate off rumors.

Gotta say... surprising response from Crytech though.

Though, meaningless to me, since i don't like any of their games.

But... they may be pushing their engine as a middleware solution.  Which could be why Mark Rein was so butthurt.  Nintendo talked to CryTek and not him.

Hmmm, chances of that happening are rather small I think.

When did nintendo partnered with powerhouse developers with a massive game engine to get awesome graphics on their games?

What Crytek and Epic does, is quite the opposite of Nintendo I think.

hmm, so Crytek a company who produces bleeding edge engines. Has a person who makes an excellent salary make positive comments about a 'highly powered' portable machine. Seriously? and he thinks everything is ok with it. Of course he thinks everything is ok. This is what Nintendo is striking with the 3DS without even knowing. They are targeting an upstream market.

I will make this claim. The 3DS is NOT the successor to the DS line. It violates many of the conventions that Nintendo was aiming for the DS line. With people from Crytek and even the upstream Gamers on VG Chartz showing more interest in the 3DS because of it's power rather than software. It's a focus on power rather than experience. It over shoots the mass market price and technological needs. I'm sure Nintendo thinks they have another big hit seller like the DS Phat on launch or the Wii, but they don't. They will hold hard and fast plugging their ears like Sony did and not price cut it for too long.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I'd assume that 3DS success out of the gate is practically a given, long term though 3DS indeed raises some doubts.

That's why you have Nintendo first party titles to vanish those doubts.

Seems like the case doesn't it?   The question is, will PSP2 be any cheaper so to capatlize.  I don't think it will.

We may just end up with extednded DS dominance.

Shoot's over the price? Their launching it higher to capitilise on the few million. It will start on $250 and half way through the year it will go down to $200 (The Japanese one is higher. People over their treat their handhelds like home consoles.

Software?

Is Animal Crossin not DS enough for you? Nintendogs? Mario Kart? Pilotwings Resort? Nintendo is giving this MORE expanded market support than regular DS. They DIDN'T make Resident Evil, Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid. These are the sort of games that inevitably end up being made for a powerful console. Third parties did that. Third parties did worse things for the wii. Red Steel sold 1.2 million copies and made 1.2 million consumers sell their wiis and buy a 360.

If you look through the list of third party 3ds games most aren't at all like Resident Evil and Metal Gear. Pacman Galaga. Proffesor Layton? Contra? Frogger? DJ Hero? Super Monkey Ball? Street Fighter 4? It has loads of arcade games and DS styled puzzle games. These just get a disproportionate amount of trailer time compared to their sales. And theirs a VERY good reasone for this.

The sort of people who whatch previews for new consoles are the sort of people who are impressed by pretty graphics and Metal Gear. If they showed lots of Proffesor Layton and no Metal Gear the internet would be filled with people yelling LOLZ CaSUalZ FOr NOOOOBZ I GunNA Go BlOWZ uP SomE TERRISTS in COD.

They aren't fighting for the bulk of gamers yet. This is just the opening moves.

EDIT: A console is capable of selling something for everyone. 3ds is the new PS2

I can't tell if this is sarcasm so i'm just going to go ahead and treat it as if it isn't.

The Japanese one is roughly $300 but just about everyone thinks the western release will be cheaper. Normally, people pin it either as $275 or $250. Nintendo has made it pretty clear they could release it for cheaper, but they don't really want to because they like money

In Japan they like their handhelds more so they can sell for more. Seriously, $350? Where'd that come from.
