Dedicated multiplayer servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops were always part of the plan, developer Treyarch has insisted.

"We never went away from dedicated servers. We had dedicated servers in our last title, we had planned on dedicated servers for our subsequent title all along, so we haven't actually wavered on that at all," Treyarch's Cesar Stastny told PC Gamer magazine (via CVG)

"We are a PC developer. I've been running a dedicated PC team since the beginning of this project. We had one last project. We are making a true PC title here and it's a really important platform for our studio, and I'm also really thrilled that we can support the PC community as much as we can."

Famously, Infinity Ward decided against dedicated servers for the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - a move that provoked fans. EA capitalised, and used a very loud voice to confirm dedicated servers for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

We found out earlier this month that Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 3 will use dedicated servers in an attempt to rid complaints of "host advantage".

Call of Duty: Black Ops will be released on 9th November.

Pretty much every developer is a PC developer. Very few games are made on Macs...

Only Blizzard games are on Macs.

They may be on Macs for someone to buy them, but I doubt they are made on Macs :)
