Forums - General - Could Pixar pull off a Mario Movie that was actually good? (hypothetically)

i was just thinking about Game-Movies and how they are usually crap, mostly because they are not aimed at the gamers who love the franchise, but at people who don't care about it, and they do what they do best, they don't care.

and i was thinking about how a movie should be that actually catered to the gamers only, and what franchise would be big enough to be worth such a movie and my first answer was: Call of Duty! but actually i don't like War movies, so i went on to my second thought:

Mario!

Now imagine they could get Pixar to make a Mario Movie.

What would you want it to be like? What could the plot be like? Who should be in it and who shouldn't? ...

Start imagining....NOW!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Princes gets kidnapped.

Mario, luigi, mushroom head kid thing all look for her.

Mushroom kid is a character who thinks he can defeat anybody. To brave for his own good but he is harmless. Alway gets in trouble

Luigi acts hard but as soon as danger comes he chickens out.

Mario holds everything together and is the brains of the operation.

Yoshi is mario's trusty loyal pet. Think of that dinosaur from the flintstones

Bowser is the crazy bad guy everyone is scared of. He has his own kingdom where everyone is under his rule and wants Princess peach to be his queen.

He manages to find some mario/luigi DNA to create wario and waluigi. Bowsers top men these two will be.

The skellington things. The will be 2 of them that are really stupid and fail at everything.

Daisey is a bad person in this film. But mario the good guys dont know it. She helped bowser to take princess peach and keeps attempting to spoil mario's plans to get her back. She wants mario to herself.

Well thats tha basic character development and such. I cant be arsed to write a full story on how it will unfold

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

No.

Mario doesn't have the kind of story that works well in the movie industry. Even if it has cute CGI animations made by Pixar it still needs a storyline.

I remember Dennis Hopper saying the Mario movie was the worst mistake he had ever made in his life.

It just doesn't work. However I would love to be proven wrong.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

1. Movies based on games are crap because Hollywood keeps turning games that would make bad movies into movies (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter etc.), instead of turning games that could potentially be amazing movies (Grim Fandango, Psychonauts etc.). Just because a game is considered great and is popular, doesn't mean that it would make a great movie (stories are very important in movies, while in the case of video games the gameplay is the main feature most of the time).

2. A movie made to cater solely to gamers would suck bigtime.

3. Giving Pixar's trackrecord, I'm sure they could at the very least make a "decent" Mario movie.

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

There was a mario movie once, it had Bob Hoskins in it. He's a good actor, the movie was f'ing awful.

Movies of games don't work because a game plot requires some sort of gameplay to distract from how crap the story generally is.

everyone has cute animations nowadays, but Pixar movies are all about storyline, that is why they came to mind when thinking about who could do it.

i mean they made one of the greatest cgi-movies today about a fish looking for another fish. i wouldn't want to know what the Disney writers would have come up with on that plot

i agree that the movie was awful, that is why i was talking about a GOOD movie.

but i don't agree that Bob Hoskins is a good Actor, i think he is decent at best.

Mortal Kombat had a dirt simple plot, which in part, was based off of Enter the Dragon. Hollywood actually followed the game's story decently, in the first film. The acting and dialogue were where that movie fell apart. If Hollywood could somehow manage to stick to a games story AND have decent actors, dialogue and special effects, they could make a good movie. If they can do it with comics, why not videogames?

Bob Hoskins aside, the second part of what I said is why I don't think would ever be a good Mario movie or pretty much any game for that matter. Game stories as well as being pretty shallow, are paced around gameplay. Using mario as an example again, there is so little plot to work with that a movie would just end up being like any other game-movie tie in. You can't make a movie with 80 mins of running through drain pipes and 10 mins of dialogue.

No, but not because of Pixar. The movie wouldn't be very good because Mario just isn't that interesting outside of the game world.
