Forums - General - Post your top 5 Smart Phone apps

Post which smart phone you have (Droid, Blackberry, i-Phone) and your favorite app/apps.  Here's mine

Droid 2

  • Live TV:  A guy at work showed me this app last night.  It's pretty sweet.  Basically, it's live TV on your phone.  After a quick download, we were watching college football, WWF Raw, and Spike TV all night.  Quite nifty.  A lot of the channels didn't work, though.
  • Shazam:  If a song is playing and I don't know who sings it, SHAZAM!!  The phone will listen to the song for about 15 seconds and tell me who the singer is, what the song is, show me the album cover, and if I want, even the lyrics.  It's magic!
  • Google Goggles:  Pretty cool.  Take a picture of something and the phone will analyze the pic and look it up on the internet.
  • Places:  I just type in what I want (for example, food) and the phone's GPS will instantly find any thing that fits the description in the area.  It'll give me directions, ratings, contact info, business hours, and everything.
  • Zapp Brannigan Soundboard:  You never know when you need a Zapp Brannigan quote, quickly!  This is great for those emergency situations where only a Zapp Brannigan quote can save you.

What if one doesn't have a smartphone and instead has a normal peasants phone?

You can post your normal phone apps like Calculator, beeping when you press a number, vibrate, or making phone calls, I guess.

Gotta say phone and text is certainly up there.

My phone is technically a smartphone, but from before touch screen interfaces came in. I can watch TV on it, download apps etc., but it's not really worthwhile with the interface/screen and I'm not bothered to get a newer one.

At this point my DSi in combination with my Huawei E585 serve for any mobile internet browsing I wish to do, and hopefully the 3DS will do it better, meaning I don't need to buy an expensive smartphone and/or a particular contract/data plan for mobile internet.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I have NFL mobile, what else do you need. lol

Iphone:
- Shazam: I need to know what song that was..
- Layar: take a pic of a location and it well augment reality with lots of info about the place
- Remote: using my phone to control my itunes anywhere in the house.. very useful when taking a long dump..
- Teamviewer: remotely control my work Mac in the office while I'm not there.. also to annoy my gf thinking that my home Mac is possessed by a ghost..
- Whatsapp messenger: Like ping for Blackberry.. Instant messenger between whatsapp users.. uses your phonenumber as personal ID..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

In that case, I'll go with darth's phone and text abilities, as well as

- The backlit screen

- The old-fashioned buttons instead of a touchscreen

- The battery that lasts for days without recharging

- The videocamera with a whopping 128 x 96 resolution
