Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy XIV Critic REVIEWS Thread (And metacritic watch)!

Ouch up to this point. Hopefully some reviewers are smart enough to level up to see the whole story before giving it a score.

Part of the story of the game is how involved you are in it.  If the game presents issues that take away from the story, the story fails.  A story may have a fantastic third act but if I can't sit throug the first two acts because the story is terrible or whatever reason, the story fails.  I don't care enough to get to the end.

With XIV, you have all the problems the game has and then there are very large gaps in between the story.  You lose interest and you just don't care or want to continue with the story.  At that point the story has failed you.

Where's the actual review?  I can only see Gamespot's and user reviews on that link...

Twesterm is right on the ball.

First two reviews are based on what has been presented as a package when released on the PC. The other two review scores are based on "potential" of Final Fantasy XIV: assuming the game gets patched and receives DLC and online support.

Reality>>>Potential.

FF XIV is an online only FF game. FFXI was mediocre at best. World of Warcraft remains the king of MMORPGs.

King of revenue definitely. But if you ask me WoW lacks in comparison to FFXI in every aspect.

I called completely failure of this game from the moment it was announced at E3. MMORPGs are just crap games these days and hardly original in any way. The genre last pull was with WoW and it survives but their success will never repeat again with any other MMORPG.

I love FFXI to death and I'm not a fan of WoW but saying WoW lacks in comparison in every aspect of XI is just plain ignorant.

There are a great deal many things WoW does much better than FFXI, off the top of my head:

  • UI
  • Quest Design
  • It's windowed
  • It actually allows add-ons and modifications
  • questing
  • play control
  • JUMPING
  • PvP

And there are others.  That sais, again, I like FFXI better.  I don't really care for PvP, FFXI has the better job system by far, and the community is better.

I don't really believe that.  MMO's can still be strong it's just so many of them fail because they try to directly compete with WoW when that is a giant mistake.  MMO's other problems is that the developers think they can release broken games when people have showed time and time again they only have so much patience.

In FFXIV's case, had it actually had a useable UI, better economy and wasn't so limiting in terms of play, I really think it could have given WoW a run for its money even with its current bugs and other missing features.  It did the right thing in trying to be different from WoW, it's just went way too far in some parts and released far too soon and it is going to fail because of it.
