Yes it's valid for every company, but I think he means it in the following way:

we (Nintendo) have a certain plan of action and a certain lineup for the holiday season. We don't have much planned for the WIi after the holidays, nor do third parties. Our strategy has been to hit it during the holidays big time, and ride on that wave for the months after the holidays. If our holiday plans do not succeed, this will mean not only bad sales during the holidays but also no wave for the Wii to ride on after the holidays. That would then be similar to 2008 with Animal Crossing and Wii music, but worse (much worse) since then there was still pent up unfulfilled demand for Wiis due to the shortages, and now on the other hand there will be Kinect and Move to further affect Wii sales, both during the holidays and after.

OR, similar to the above yet I think different, he means it this way:

Move and Kinect will be available during the holidays. We have plans for the holidays that should work out for better Wii sales. If these plans do not work, that means that the effect of Move and Kinect on WIi sales is bigger than we thought.

Yes, but this time it's Iwata who is saying it . He must have been reading too much Pachter.

Um just throwing this out there, but why is everyone saying NIntendo will push the Wii past it's 5 year cycle that Nintendo has been using?  I mean I don't think they'll stop production soon, but a new console is coming to replace it sooner rather than later.  And why do I say this?  Cause NIntendo is replacing the bestest selling game machine of all time that's still selling better than every other gaming machine combined, in a few months.

Wow, that's made no sense whatsoever, Nintendo is less concerned about 5 year plans than sales and profits, the reason other Nintendo consoles died out so fast was because of sales, the NES survived much more than five years, because it sales continued strong.

If Wii has good sales, Nintendo will wait to release its  next console, if sales sag too far then they'll announce the next one

What do you mean that made no sense?  If Nintendo would replace the DS which is the best selling game machine ever, which is still selling more than most of the consoles combined, why would they not replace the Wii which isn't selling nearly as much?  Hell the Wii has been selling less than the PS3 right now everywhere.  What's the flawed logic?  Wouldn't your reasoning mean Nintendo would wait to replace the DS?  I'm not saying they're going to stop production of the Wii, just have its successor in line and ready to be shown. I mean the SNES was out along side the NES .  They probably won't show it this E3 cause Zelda has yet to release but after Zelda's release there's going to be a successor shown.

There is a reason they replaced the DS, while its sales are still strong, there are reasons to move to the 3DS, first off is piracy, another reason is the rise of smartphone gaming

I think Nintendo will release a second console in 2011 early 2012. The new console will  be a "hardcore only" kind of thing while keeping the Wii on the market for a couple more years. Just like how the PS3 and PS2 were three years ago.

Third parties can continue making shovelware for wii without having to compete with nintendo games because they'll be working on games on the new console with the other second party and more powerful third party developers.

It'll be just like that third wheel they were saying the DS was going to be.

That would be a stupid decision on their part, as their last attempt at a hardcore me too system was a dismal failure

And there's plenty of reasons to move on to a new console; low sales, piracy, rise of motion controles from "HD" gaming.

yes I know he doesn't say it's doomed, that was all part of the "Wii IZ d0med" joke. Personally I am not overly confident about holiday sales (mainly because of Kinect bundles but also Move once it's "holiday advertised" with a bundle), but we'll see. I think a lot depends on whether Donkey King would have an even remotely similar effect on Wii sales that NMSBWii did, everything else is just noise (same as last year, it's not the price cut that did it, it was the game).
