Forums - Nintendo - Legitimate Wii software issue...

I've seen maybe 6 seconds but never 6 minutes.

My Wii has never done this, though I did see it once over at one of my friend's homes. He said his did it a lot, but I disregarded it as a dirty disc or something, since everything he owns has been mauled by his three boys (ages 4, 5, and 7).

Does it do it without any disc in the drive?

Can't say I've had this exact problem however whenever there's moving graphics on mine I get a noise effect across the screen(no not literally noise I mean like static) This includes all games and functions on the wii. It doesn't happen with composite cables only component. Think the problems with my TV? Or could it be the component cables any ideas?

That sounds more like the GPU overheating issue in Wii connect24 mode which is well documented. You should definately call Nintendo and get the official answer and possibly get your Wii sent out for repair.

I thought of that potability but no, I'm sure it's just scaling noise. I don't leave wiiconnect on in standby mode because I simply have no reason to. I was thinking magnetic field from my PS3/360/surround sound or something else. Maybe there's a setting I can use on the TV to change it or something. I wish the 360 and wii had power off switches like the PS3 though, I'm too lazy to unplug them when I won't be using them for long periods of time just like the PS3.

If you manually press and hold the power button, it'll turn red indicating that its off rather than the orange indicating its on standby.

The black hole happens to me too. Now you mentioned it, I just realized it has something to do with WiiConnect24.

I have had a few seconds sometimes when changing apps .. but never much more.

I leave my WiiConnect 24 on perma standby mode.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Interesting. The only recurring issue like that is MLB Power Pros will take 5-30 seconds to load but I think that has something to do with having my Wii set to widescreen which the game doesn't support (it started right after I set the Wii to widescreen mode). I've had something similar to that happen a couple times over the last 8 months but I don't remember the situation so I have no idea what could have caused it.

Yes... it does it whenever the Wii has been off for a few days.  I have seen it with and without a disc in the drive.  It's definately WiiConnect24 related.  It's as if the Wii forgets it can do it's updates while in standby mode and decides to do it once you turn the system on and load an app.  Peer describes it pretty faithfully in his blog.
