Forums - Sony - The "make sure" formula for creating the right PS4...

Release at 899 US Dollars.
4 Cell processors, no GPU.
Fuck the  games. Just make sure I can watch True 1440p 3D movies and then start developing the games.

Some people think the most important thing is price, but I think the most important factors are

  • Making it easy to develop for and
  • Get Sony 1st/2nd party to make games quicker than the PS3
  • Look at some of these studios that took a while before they released a PS3 game
    • Guerrilla Games  -    2009
    • Sucker Punch        -   2009
    • Zipper                     -    2010 (although SOCOM is the more impactful game which releases in 2011)
    • Santa Monica        -   2010
    • Team ICO      -  NO RELEASES
    • Polphony Digital    -  NO [FULL] RELEASES
It took the PS3 about 3 years before it got a decent slew of exclusives. Imagine if all these studios released their games earlier in the PS3's life Cycle, especially  PD. The PS3 would be in a much better position.

No god exclusives erlyer in the PS3 life

    This Game says hello.

even though MGS4 is a Konami 3rd party game it is still Exclusive and was out July 2008.

Be the way SONY has always thrived on 3rd Party Exclusives to sell there systems not 1st or 2nd outside of GT that is.

I said decent slew, not one or two good games per year. 2008 was pretty good though, but most of the games didn't appeal to the masses ( Valkyria  Chronicles, Motorstorm 2).

Less and less 3rd parties are going exclusive, so 1st party gotta make up for it come ps4.

It will be semi chunky unfortunately. So they can give a reason for the slim

its been confirmed today that GT5 has a weather system, track editor and go karts! seriously i think this is going to be the best selling in the series even beating GT3 sales of 14 million plus!

At least 2GB of shared RAM (GDDR5 or XDR2)

XMB or whatever OS they use shouldn't take up more than 3% of the RAM

There should be an App Store which offers media playing apps (VLC player, Adobe Flash/PDF,) - because Sony takes way too long to update it's media playing abilities, doesn't wanna have to pay fees/go through legal crap and in some cases, flat out refuses to directly support many popular open source formats like MKV, FLAC, and Vorbis.

Support for Firefox or Chrome - or anything besides their crumby browser

Some sort of device or program which stablizes framerates and never lets them drop below 24fps in offline gameplay.

The biggest element of a successful PS4 is introductory price. My hypothetical PS4...

    500 GB SKU: $400

Cloud Storage SKU: $300 (no internal hard drive, requires internet connection)

The biggest reason for the $600 price point was the blu-ray player. Cost is down dramatically, so I don't expect another $600 console. I pray Sony has learned their lesson. If you look at sales, the 360 leads by 3-5 million depending on the source. People know PlayStation and trust PlayStation and I suspect they still do. A low price point will guarantee the PS4's place at least second if not first in the next console war.

PS4 MUST be backwards compatible. There are too many quality games on the PS3.

Of course, I expect Sony to include some killer hardware. Rumors were a variation of the POWER VR6 GPU and Power 7 CPU. The architecture must be easier for developers. I would imagine a 32nm or 22nm process, depending on release date.

And finally, Sony needs a killer lineup for the first year. My wet dream is as follows assuming a release date in Q4 2012.

    Q4 2012: A fourth God of War

    Q1 2013: Killzone 4

    Q2 2013: inFamous 3

Q3 2013: If Naughty Dog is up to it, a fourth Uncharted.

    Q4 2013: Gran Turismo 6

I call this a bridge  where Sony can bridge the PS3 and PS4 by providing familiar AAA software for the first year giving PS3 owners a reason to make the switch.

Of course this is me dreaming I can only hope that Sony has learned their lessons.

    2011 Predictions

    Wii: 17m (100 million total)

    360: 13m (63 million total)

    PS3: 15m (61 million total)

How about it not being $600 and having some good games at launch. And BC with all PS consoles would be great.
