Forums - Gaming - Call of Duty:Black Ops... 3D ready...on Xbox360 and PS3!!

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/05/call-of-duty-black-ops-preview-3d/

"Activision recently demonstrated its high-profile first-person shooter running on Xbox 360 (it'll also be available on PS3 and PC), reminding us that 3D is a feature most HDMI-equipped systems can handle."

My commets: This is great for 360 owners as the 360 version, unlike the Ps3 version isn't locked to the new HDMI 1.4 TVs. I can play it on my 3D DLP, 3d projector, 3D monitor...etc. You don't have to spend 2000 dollars to play it.

"Because 3D demands individual images for your left and right eye, the scene must be rendered twice, requiring developers to come up with ways of shrinking what would otherwise be a doubled footprint on the system. As with Killzone 3 and Motorstorm Apocalypse, there's a noticeable drop in the fidelity of the image. With 3D enabled, Black Ops appears fuzzier than normal, producing an image akin to what you'd experience in a split-screen game."

My commets: Expected...but good news for PC owners though who have the horsepower to push full res 3D. They have a perfect 3D ready game.

So much for all those "PS3 can only do 3D" threads lol.

I can't wait to see what the PC version is going to be like...but am curious what Ps360 versions will look like too.

It's funny, because the whole marketing campaign of "it only does" is simply telling customers what the system is capable, not that it's the only thing out there that can do it. Nothing to "lol" about

Very interesting. This may actually breath a lot of new life into PC gaming, because:

1. As you say, new PCs have the horsepower to render 3D without loss

AND

2. 3D capable screens for PC are much, much more affordable

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

Im not talking about the marketing. Just people thinking PS3 is only capable of doing 3D gaming. People here (and other forums) have been saying 360 can't do it cause...

1. It only has HDMI 1.2

2. It doesn't have Teh Cell

3. It didn't have the "update"...that update did more harm than good as it locked all existing 3d TVs from being used with the PS3.

etc...

That is what I was refering to, not the marketing campaign.

This is going to be the 8th 3d ready game this year for the PC. Add that to the list of 100s of games which already work great in 3D and you got great reasons to go 3D on the PC.

Mafia 2, Trine, Battlefied BC2, Just cause 2, MEtro 2033, Lost Planet 2, Dead Rising 2...COD Black ops in november...Crysis 2 in 2011

Sweet, more support!

Some FAQs.

3. HOW DO I TURN ON 3D?
For consoles, toggling between traditional and 3D is performed through the Options Screen accessed directly from the Main Menu. On PCs where Nvidia 3D Vision™ is detected, 3D display is automatic, but users have the option of disabling 3D.

4. DO I NEED A SPECIAL TELEVISION OR COMPUTER MONITOR TO PLAY THE GAME IN 3D?
Yes. Call of Duty: Black Ops can output 3D signals for televisions that implement an active-shutter stereoscopic 3D technology. Xbox 360 users need a television that supports a “side by side” 3D mode. PlayStation 3 users need a television that supports a “top-bottom” or “over-under” 3D mode. PC users need a monitor that supports Nvidia 3D Vision 3D technology.

NOTE: Call of Duty: Black Ops is not compatible with other 3D technologies and/or modes such as anaglyph, polarized, ChromaDepth, or ColorCode 3D technologies. Active shutter televisions that support only a “checkerboard” 3D mode are also not compatible.

6. WHAT TYPE OF 3D GLASSES DO I NEED TO PLAY THE GAME IN 3D?
To play Call of Duty: Black Ops in 3D, you need active shutter 3D glasses that are designed to work with the 3D-capable television or computer monitor being used. Please check with your hardware manufacturer and/or retailer to determine the correct set of glasses to match your television or monitor. This is also the reason why 3D glasses are not being bundled with any version of the game.

7. DOES MY XBOX 360 HAVE TO BE EQUIPPED WITH AN HDMI OUTPUT IN ORDER TO PLAY IN 3D?
Yes. Displaying the game in 3D is only supported via HDMI (this is a requirement of your television). Note, for 3D functionality on the Xbox 360, you must set your console to operate in the 720p mode.

9. WHAT COMPATIBLE 3D-ENABLED TELEVISIONS ARE CURRENTLY ON THE MARKET?
We are unable to provide an exhaustive list of all active-shutter 3D-enabled television hardware. We have successfully tested the game with recent models from Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, and LG. Please confirm with your television manufacturer and/or retailer whether your television is compatible with the active shutter 3D technology available on the Microsoft Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3 consoles.

Yeah. You need spend 2000 dollars on TV for 3D on Black Ops or buy 3D Vision on PC.

And 360 uses the inferior 3D "Side by side" because the limitation of HDMI.

Side to side and over/under are perfect for me...It is interesting that they don't state that either version doesn't need HDMI 1.4.

Could it be that Sony have locked out only their own games from non HDMI 1.4 TVs?

Wrong

It supports side to side, over/under. I can play it on any of my 3d displays using Tridef/IZ3D drivers and an HDMi capture card.

I also have 3d vision so I can play it with that and HDMI capture card.
