Forums - Nintendo - Kojima talks Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater

This information comes directly from Hideo Kojima, who spoke about Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater during Nintendo’s conference last week…

“When I first heard about its 3D function, I naturally wanted to make something which looks great in 3D. In Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, camouflage is an important gimmick. To avoid being detected, you need to change your camouflage in accordance with the backgrounds. You need to adjust your speed in order to increase the effect of the camouflage and now because this time it’s going to be 3D, you have a real sense that your hiding behind something and the camouflage becomes even more effective in 3D. And I’ve been waiting for the arrival of this new communication capability. Even when the players are not playing the game, we can make some tricks for them. A number of new ideas for taking advantage of the gimmicks are popping up in my brain. We have the story for Snake Eater, which is now becoming 3D. What kind of new hide and seek can be made? Snake Eater to be played on a portable game machine, Snake Eater to take advantage of the communication capability. Please look forward to a number of new ideas that we are preparing for you.”

Neat, I like this idea of using 3D to enhance the camouflage effect. I won't get much use of the Streetpass ability though if he uses it, since I won't be passing near many people who have a 3DS (if any at all...). But maybe he'll also use the Spotpass ability (pushing new content to the player via the Internet), that would be neat as well.

Unfortunately Iwata did say it would need more recharges than the DS.

Well keep in mind unlike the DS the 3DS is always on. Its in a sleep mode like the Wii which means its going to need to be charged constantly.

How do you switch it off on a plane then?

1. I would assume there are 2 ways to turn it off - sleep mode and complete shut down

2. It probably doesn't consume much energy when in sleep mode - it probably sends a probing signal once every x minutes to find another 3DS and/or an Internet connection, and then and either goes back to sleep or, if it gets a response, it opens up slightly more, does what it is supposed to do, and then goes back to sleep.

I thought Kojima had said that he would make a total new Metal Gear for 3DS,

that Naked Sample was just a sample.

I want new games,

NO MORE REMAKES

Now nintendo fans will know why Hideo Kojima is so awesome.
