Like I told tonestarr, the good thing about my system is that the "exits" are really just three-way intersections.  Normally, two are the freeway and one is the exit, but it could just as easily be another freeway.  It's totally doable.

OK, for those of you who aren't aware, things are getting different at the spawn point, with respect to the rail lines.  tonestarr made a sizeable station a little ways off in the direction of his old route, which intercepts incoming traffic on that line.  (doesn't make it to the original spawn station?)

On my part, I've made it to that the default is going to go straight out and down underwater to hook up with my freeway -- the exit is not complete as of now so it's currently still sending you on tone's old road.  The lever has a redstone light which lights up if you're NOT going on the highway. 

The other choice will send you down tone's old road (I think it just skips his station and sends you on past it).  My old skyway is shut out of that system, since it's going to be obsolete (freeway will connect spawn point, Farm Island, and my base as soon as the spawn exit is done).  However, there is an override switch by that line of track by the wall that will cause ALL traffic, and I do mean all, to be sent on my old skyway to Farm Island.  This has its own warning light and signs explaining what the light signifies. 

The spawn point seems to have a creeper problem:  I got blown up TWICE while working on the spawn point station redstone.  I guess we could do Joe's sign boundary, or build an enclosure.  If we want to totally revamp the spawn point station, that's also an option, though as far as function goes I think it's pretty mature -- I leave aesthetics up to the judgment of others.  In the meantime, be careful, and please protect the fragile station at all costs. 

If all that sounds confusing, go look for yourself.  If it's still confusing, maybe I should make a billboard explaining it better.

I may have fixed that spawn issue. I believe the problem was that the spawn was too easily accessable from the sea side section. I sealed off the part of that where I've seen mobs make their entrance, and I built a bridge - with a secure, mob-proof section at the other end - to get out through that side.

 

I also began working on the final section of the tunnel to connect to the main section running to the city. It's rather bothersome working underwater, but it must be done.

Yeah, it's annoying and time-consuming, but in the end you figure out a rhythm to it, and, for me at least, I hope the end product -- a freeway with a view instead of miles and miles of tunnel wall -- will justify the extra difficulty. 

I've already discovered the sunrise/sunset gives a nice effect IMO.

On the other hand, hooking it up while also not messing with tonestarr's own station is a bit more of a challenge.  I guess I could make it an "exit only" exit -- I can't think of a good way offhand to avoid one of us overriding the other as far as the people coming from the city to here.  Adding another intersection for "Highway/station/city" would be doable, but seems at first glance like a bad solution given the tiny distance from the two other stops. 

I really hate to just take over, considering the nice station he built and the fact that it's his city -- but tonestarr, is there honestly a reason city folk should go to that station instead of the freeway?  I'm not suggesting it be cut out of the equation by any means -- just asking which one gets primacy. 

P.S.  Oh, and is there any reason to make a halfway stop for people to have the option of exiting to Jammin's old place?

I wouldn't know why. Jammin's old place isn't very much of an attraction.

As for which direction to go, I wanted to make the subway system for the city as simple as possible. While your system has all sorts of functionality to it, it's really complicated. I prefer to keep them relatively separate as a result. I think I'm going to add a third line exiting my station, though, that will run to yours. If you want to have a line dedicated for the same, I think we can work something out together to use that as the connection.

Beautiful. 

By the way, status update on the freeway loop:  I've finally finished off the side running roughly from wick's spleef arena to goddog's tower.  Unfortunately, there currently aren't any stops between the exit to my base and the spawn exit (that is, about 70% of the entire freeway) and you run out of juice if you try to run it right now.  I'd like to add a stop to wick's stuff somewhere, but I'd have to coordinate with him and I haven't even SEEN him that I remember.  Unless walkernick is an alias?

Anyway:  I also added signs for the various doors you can see going off of the freeway tunnel, so you have some idea where they let you out into (e.g. wick's area, the surface by the big "STEFL", a partly explored cave, etc.).

Does it really seem that complicated?  I mean, I see the value of having a simplified expressway, but I didn't think the freeway was what you'd call "complex". 

Also, I'm taking a slight break from the freeway to do some map-based scouting.  South-southwest of the main area, there seems to ba a small building of some kind, and southwest of that, there are several orangey patches that I want to identify.  Yeah, that's how I define relaxation now.  

When I get back, if I can't do exits for joe and wick, I'll start work on the second loop, which is tentatively planned to be north and west of the first one.  I don't know yet whether it'll just run out of the blue/green loop and then merge back into it, or if I'll make a complete loop like the first one, that would be connected by a little exchange line.

That's a very rough idea, of course, and I hope it doesn't mangle itself even further when I post.  Anyway, ANY input on what might be a preferable way to go, especially from Jammin, tonestarr, zaljiiriin, and whoever else is up there would be valued.  The Greater and Lesser Stargates are both in my head as being accessible via this line, as well as anything else in the region desiring service like tone's sky castle, Jammin's big pyramid, tone's fortress, etc. 

(I don't plan to work this one very fast, necessarily; a big reason I want to start it is simply to add a stop to the dead zone so people don't run out of momentum going around the existing loop.)
