Forums - Nintendo - And this's how NIntendo pland to fight Piracy in the 3DS

I wonder if they will use that new connection method to instal updates as well. You know how they say your 3DS will be on all the time like the Wii and can share files with other 3DS's while your walking. What if they made it that every 3DS automatically updates one another. Say your sitting on a bus near someone elses 3DS and their system is updated. A couple seconds later the update has been transfered to your system.

Make the updates smaller so that they can be shared quickly when one 3DS comes into contact with another. Not to mention automatically connecting to the internet where ever a hot spot is. You could be walking down town and walk passed an unsecured hotspot and bamb you get the update.

Actually automatically connecting to hotspots would be awsome I'd love that kind of functionality.

Does anyone see why those above methods wouldn't work?

Joe, that's actually brilliant and I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.

Not that's not briliant. That's anal rape of our consumer rights.

... actually, I was thinking it was problematic from another perspective. Think about how a well written virus could use a system like that to propagate itself.

It would only be an infringement on consumer rights if it reduces prodeuct capability.   Otherwise, it is seen as a measure of product maintenance and part of the EULA of the operating system in the 3DS.

Happy, proprietary OS's  are insanely difficult to write a virus for.  Look at how many non Windows PC devices communicate with each other and you never hear of them getting a virus.  There are also numerous ways to verifying the code is clean before the 3DS installs anything received from another 3DS.

I'm not saying it would be easy to write a virus that operated that way, just that it is a "feature" that could be exploited with very negative effects.

Hey, I thought you had to be a PSN plus subscriber to get automatic updates...oh wait...wrong forum. ;-p

On topic: Auto-updates suck and I'd rather do it manually. I hope Nintendo doesn't go through with something like this.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

@Happy.

Sure, IF a virus wer written and no validation system were implemented, it could cause a problem but they'd never be insane enough to enable the former without the latter.

Considering they already plan to have automatic updates via the Internet, I think it's safe to assume they will implement a validation system.

I like the idea of automatic updates, one less thing to wory about
