Forums - General - Student commits suicide after roomate records him with a man

millions of people commit suicide every year many more attempt it, depression anxiety guilt can all be factors ,it is tragic whether it's acute loneliness , family disintegration ,or a myriad of other causes we will never know what causes some one to take there life, because we as  individuals see life through our own eyes and thoughts and every ones are different, the best we can do is to be empathetic to the human condition and try not to generalize  and most importantly try to make sure our different Governments stop putting mental health and it issues at the bottom ,so we can stop being the kind of society that doesn't seem to care that a large section of the homeless and disenfranchised are in fact people coping with mental illness.

They'll have to live with pushing to suicide for the rest of their lives. I heard about this story on the way to work this morning. It's a shame.

There are people who kill others (directly) and don't work up a sweat over it. Do you honestly think these a-holes will loose sleep over this?

I'm sure the inmates in the prison he does time in while remind him every day.

For those wondering about the sentence, this really seems like a case of...

Do you punish people based on their actions... or based on their results?

Tragic case, though.

Actually the length of their sentence has nothing to do with him taking his life. It's the standard sentence for the two crimes they committed.

He killed himself just because he was outed. Why not just change schools or something. Obviously he had problems other then hiding he was gay.

That said I believe his roomate deserves the jail time. When my friend told me he was gay I was shocked for about a minute then we went back to playing halo and I made a mental note to never change my clothes with him in the room again.

If this guy's sole reason for suicide was a sex tape, we are very lucky he is no longer with us.

how can you say such an awful thing.

There is a large empathy-deficit in this world unfortunately. I find the "he's a bitch"/"i have no symapthy for people who suicide"/"we're lucky he's no longer with us" comments disgusting.

The room mate who recorded and posted the video on the other hand, I have zero empathy for that scumbag. Human trash like that have no place sharing oxygen with the rest of us.

Yeah I'd have to say empathy is almost non-existant with today's teens including me. I don't get how you can feel bad for someone so cowardly that he takes his own life because he can't deal with consequences of his own actions. I know he didn't intend on getting filmed, and the guys who did it are assholes, but he has to live with what he did.

He was filmed unbeknownst to him. He asked his roomate if he could have his boyfriend over for the evening, and his roomate said it was fine and he wouldn't bother them. The secret cameras the roomate planted allowed him to record everything, and post images and the video on the internet where everyone watched it. Pretty terrible thing to do, and don't say that was any "consequence of his own actions". It was not.

How would you feel if someone recorded you having sex with a girl? Would you want the whole world to see you do something so private like that? You have any idea how much that would hurt your reputation? Employers google search their candidates you know. Perhaps you may feel that this would make you a stud but that stuff will come back to haunt you.

Now imagine the negative consequences of that and multiply that by 10 (given how homophobic society is) and that's what you have with this guy.

What is the intention of making a video like that? Wasn't that to make his life hard/destroy his life?

For making a video like that you simple need to get punished and go to prison imo (or an other punishment I don't see witch one though).

He problably would get bullied whole his college years and with stuff like facebook it is easy to send the video to his friends/family...

If he is unlucky his family will not like it. And he would not be the first gay person who is not more welcome in the family..

Then yes I can understand you feel to weak to go on for life, college life should be one of the happiest periods of his life, for him it would be his worst and going on for years...like that you need to be very strong.

3-5 years is a bit harsh for the penalty. Sure they were douchebags for what they did but it wasn't their idea for him to kill himself.

What was the idea then?  Just wondering..
