You're talking about the same Wall Street that didn't realize the credit default swap market could crash as terribly as it did.  I don't think their perceptions count for much.

Look at it this way - most of the big name video game companies have been putting up numbers in the negatives and none of them have a product as big as the 3DS on the horizon.  Nintendo has absolutely nothing to worry about.  They aren't on death's door, their still standing head and shoulders above every other video game company in the world and making it look easy.

I here you on the 3DS, they definitely have a winner on their hands.

But the reality of it is  that Nintendo has lost over 6.5 Trillion yen ($81B) or two thirds its market value over the past 3 years.  This is value lost to the real owners of the company, the shareholders.

Ouch my bad. But I had in mind the annual numbers for 360 last year and supposed this year sales would look similar. Like ~9 million consoles.

I don't think anyone suggests that the Wii is doing badly however as Nintendo is a publicly traded company it is their duty to maximise profits as best they can. Since Wii sales are falling there is always that possibility that it will be replaced swiftly.

Wrong again, 360 sold ans shipped more than 9 mill in 2008 and 2009.

I'd like to see The Source opinions on this, mostly on the SW forecast, which has been cut 30 million downwards for the Wii alone.
Also, Iwata's comments last night were NOTHING encouraging in regards to the Wii and its current situation. 3DS looks to be the definitive Nintendo console, I'm seriously doubting they will need a home console next gen. Much less if 3rd party relations with their home consoles keep on deteriorating at this rapid rate. Perhaps Nintendo should focus on 3DS and come up with a very advanced and revolutionary console in 2 gens time (enough time to come with a high quality, advanced and proved tech). Wii should die slowly from now on but I don't think they NEED to have a home console on the market after it dies.

In the original 30m estimate, yes, but are they in the new figure also?  Nintendo also said they expect to ship 4m 3DS this cycle, I'm not sure if they're bundling DS/3DS estimates anymore?

Edit: ack, nevermind skipped that sentince originally somehow.  That's a HUGE DS/3DS drop off. :/
