Forums - Gaming - Are gamers haters by nature?

This is a serious question.  Do you think too many gamers have concentrated on what they hate more than what they like.  It's difficult to go on internet discussions without (jRPGs are gay, FPSs are boring , I hate wRPGs, PSN sucks, same for XBL, etc.)

Do you think the internet has been a catalyst for this?  I do remember the playground arguments of mudslinging Nintendo and Sega.

College humor has the right attitude about this topic...  (many have probably seen)

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Its not just gaming.  Its just about everything you can think of, from politics to car companies.  It's the way communication has developed on the internet.  I guess you could say it was like that before with talk radio shock jocks and whatnot, but people think snark and bile is the cool way to 'communicate' and it's proliferated (or should I say infected) the internet.

Since I love gaming, I've tried to appeal to fellow gamers to simply be better, but who am I but one man?  Even friends of mine fall into this way of talking to me in emails and stuff and I think they do it without even realizing until I point it out.  Its pretty damaging in a societal way if you really think about it.

It's always been like this, just that the anonymity of the internet has allowed all the arseholes to voice their opinion.

It's called the internet.

No I like to think not, but unfortunately there are some very bitter, angry spiteful people on the net that have personal issues and feel such a need to talk smack. I swear you would think some of them were sexually abused by the CEO of the company they detest.

Fanboys create fanboys, and most fanboys are full of rage. I honestly don't get their state of mind if they have to go on youtube and forums and say "LOOLZ look at this gaylo 3, PS3 PWNS 4EVA"

WHY WASTE YOUR LIFE LIKE THIS?!

There are fanboys of everything.

Perhaps the competitive nature of the business itself where companies always risk bankrupcy at the hands of their competitiors amhplifies the effect.

I LOVE ICELAND!

The problem isn't that most gamers are haters, it's that haters are most vocal and will troll whenever they can.  It's like this with all groups of people.  Religous nuts, left and right wing nuts, etc....  Not all liberals, conservatives, and religoius folks are nutjobs, but the biggest nutjobs speak loudly and won't leave you alone.  Look at the Westboro Baptist Church.  Very few people are as radical as them but they get tons of coverage and make religion as  whole look bad.

It's a symptom of internet message boards, not gaming.

Most gamers are perfectly nice, well-adjusted people.

Yeah it's the Internet not the gamers. You just have to read the comments on any video on youtube to see that.

I don't understand the point of haters....

For example, IMDb is full of haters. I always wonder, "If you didn't like the damn movie, then why are you constantly on the message boards??"
