I think the hype is for real. I'll bet Kinect is out of stock for the Christmas period. I also think that by early next year people will wonder what the hype was all about, but I think it'll be a real brisk seller, at least initially.
Bah!

Hypocrisy, the game the whole family can play
There was a similar article at gameswelt.de titled "Microsoft fears supply shortages on the German market"
Kinect will sell best in NA, so if you want to track pre-orders check the NA pre-order chart. Everything else is just marketing.

Undershipping? I can still easily find Move's and have been able to since launch.
MS and undershipping? Have you guys not seen the numerous 360s at Best Buy and hundreds of Halo Reach copies at one store?!!?

Why do I get the suspicion that Microsoft wants to frontload Kinect as much as possible... before too many dissatisfied user comments appear in the net/wild?
This thread is freaking hilarious, there wont be enough crow for these doubters to eat, we should feed the rest volture.

This was my thought when I read the OP. If Microsoft plans on selling 3 Million Kinect units this holiday they can't afford to have retail shelves bare for any period of time. It is possible they may undership units at release to continue the pre-holiday hype and then release a boat load of units on Black Friday to satisfy demand. I wouldn't count on that though. |
I third this. Whenever you see the recommended action to be "so you better preorder" then you should always question their intent. They ARE in the business of preorders.

I wouldn't have thought this would be good news for Microsoft.
If they are after a more casual market, they are less likely to pre-order and more likely to stroll in and buy because they've seen the adverts.
If there isn't any stock, would they simply let the item pass by?
Alternatively, would it have a Wii like effect, driving massive demand...?
