Forums - Nintendo - Price hike Wii Germany - almost sold out

Holy Junk, with the weak dollar now it would cost me 450 dollars to get a Wii from Germany... might as well pay it on ebay

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Nintendo would get a huge negative PR backlash for raising the price, even if it does make perfect business sense. Right now it's the only one of the three console manufacturers that isn't carrying a huge PR albatross around its neck; why would they want to give up that kind of advantage? It's not as if they're not making insane profit as it is.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

They could be making as much as $100 per Wii unit at the moment... nice!

If Ninty would have known how things have turned out... would they have considered releasing the Wii for $50 more at launch? At least in the US... ??

20 euros isnt much of a hike, I got an email over the weekend from a UK online retailer called 'saver'store who are selling the wii with no games or extras for £299, thats a £120 hike!

Just came back from Xmas shopping. Passed by a large electronics store in Frankfurt (Saturn) which used to have stacks ofs Wiis lying around, selling for 250 Euro. Today a different sight: 10 Wiis left, selling at a retail price of 270 Euro. So, no price drop but rather increase in price. I was shocked - almost sold out and that at a higher pricetag. Welcome to December.

Hey, just out of interest: does this mean you are going to change your avatar now that the stacks of Wiis have disappeared?

This picture was taken in the Saturn in Osnabrück, not the one in Frankfurt. Next weekend I will have a look and once the stack there has reduced as well I will change it back to my old avatar...

If they think it`s going to sell at that (higher) price, there`s nothing we can do about it!

Oh yes, there is. I buy all my cheap games here: http://www.blahdvd.com/

You can easily get Big Brain for under €30 shipped. I got Mercury (no longer available) for under €20. Ordered on a Friday, received on a Tuesday. Plus, Nintendo games will have Star Points (which you can now exchange Wii points for).

I don't know about German stores, cause I like to have my covers in a language I can read, and my German isn't very good.

But there's a few stores in Ireland, the UK (and their crown dependencies) that have pretty good prices, some even with free shipping throughout Europe. The only disadvantage for us portuguese is that we'll have a harder time reselling our game (these games obviously lack an IGAC stamp, for those of you that know what that is).

Another thing worth looking for is second-hand games. Yeah it's a bit of a rip off (they make a ton of money on used games) but I got my brand-new second-hand copy of Big Brain Academy for little over half-price on Game - a lot of games there really are "like-new". Yet another thing is that some retail stores like Game now let you return a game for 15 days for whatever reason - and yes "I played it and didn't really like it" is a valid reason. Obviously you can only do that once per purchase, but since renting games is basically impossible around here, that's how I get my "rents".

Yes, second hand is a rip off. I got FE for 25 Euros (ok) and Tales for 45 Euros (rip off) used. The reason I still dont own Beyond Good and Evil and Skies of Arcadia are their respective high second hand prices on amazon in Germany. Sucks big time.
