Forums - General - Gay refugees, does YOUR country welcome them?

This post reeks of someone wanting to take advantage of "Gay" just to move from country to country whenever they feel like it.

Personally, being "Gay" is not the same as political refugee in my book. I can understand the plight of capitalistic Cubans fleeing Cuba out of fear of persecution and death. Likewise, I would grant refugee status to Gays from Middle Eastern and predominantly Muslim countries out of fear of a terrible death.

However, just being "Gay" should not give you the right non-Gays do not have to move from country to country based on your sexual orientation alone. The onus should be on the individual Gay to prove he/she will face a terrible death or life of complete, abject poverty just for their sexual orientation.

And on that pleasant note, OP, feel free to move here. But please get a job when you do.

If it really happened , I'll serve the UK and be a productive member in response to their kindness. Sitting home wouldn't be appropriate at all

Ah, if only all residents of Britain thought that way

I want to read about that, I need lots of information and I don't know where to look.

questions like : list of countires that accept gay refugees? what kind of discrimination should be exhibited in my country that makes me a potential refugee? are there any educational or financial requirements from my part? what kind of tests I have to pass to be qualified as gay? and many other questions related to the situation.

I pretty appreciate the help in any form possible

Your country not only needs to have laws against homosexuality but you have to actually risk physical persecution and yet it still could be difficult to get asylum in Sweden based on those reasons. You'd also have to show strong evidence that you are in fact homosexual.

I don't know what kind of laws we have here against homos and as long as I am hiding my sexuality I am safe. The strong evidence part is kind of funny hehe, how am I supposed to prove that?

A lot of times they want your familiar with gay pride symbols, like rainbows, maybe a picture of you at a gay pride event or testimony of you with men.  It can be tricky based on the country it looks like.  Though that's just from my 10 minutes or so of research after reading your OP.

I dunno, he might have enough reason.

With the honor killings and stuff, it'd be tough to tell though.

The UK accepts all refugees from anywhere, be they gay, straight, bisexual, or anything in between. Hell, they'll even give you benefits so you don't have to work. WARNING: Accept these benefits, and everyone will hate you.

so if I move to the UK I don't have to work. sweet!!!!!!!!!!!

I am fine dude, nothing serious! I just can't imagine continuing living like this for too long and I am asking for myself yes.

*relieved* XD - - - i mean those were some pretty crazy stories/articles >_<

Well, why don't you just leave the normal (non refuge) way? like go to study or work and get a Permanent residency, Canada is better/easier than most countries and it's a GREAT place to live (lived in Toronto for a few years) and you'd be eligible for a citizenship after 3 years

You will have to live in a tiny cramped apartment more often than not run down and in the middle of nowhere, and everyone in the country will despise you, but that's the general idea.

Oh, and under a Conservative government, you do have to at least pretend to be looking for work.

Bringing up "honor killngs" where fathers can murder their children for not being good muslims opens up a whole can of worms.

As a Westerner, I have serious reservations with countries such as Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan (when ruled by the Taliban) where the state advocates an extremist Wahhabi form of Islam.

Don't even get me started on how Muslims treat Women or Gays. I agree it is inhumane and degrading, but we are all individually bound by the rules and social mores of the cultures of the society we reside in.

A refugee is a refugee. They don't go giving them a gay test. On a side not countries were refugees come from generally hate gay people or act like they don't exist. So you won't get any open gays admitting to it. The reason I know this is because I am friends with a few refugees and they keep telling me there is no gay people in their country lol.
