Forums - Sales - Pokemon B&W to have bigger opening week than Reach?

Reach? Easily. Modern Warfare 2? A more tricky question, but I hope it does.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I just realized but, isn't Pokemon counted as 2 titles or are we combining them now? If we're combining them I think Pokemon may already have the record but as single games I don't think it is as strong.

B&W count as the same game.

If you you want to split both, you also have to split the various Halo Reach Editions that are out.

Not quite, Halo Reach is the same game for every edition; I was told that Pokemon B&W, like the previous games, each contain a number of different pokemon, along with many similar ones,  in them. They are also sold as two separate games, even though they are tracked as one.

Guess it is similar to how each iteration of the DS is still considered a DS as well as the slim models or other consoles. It really just depends on how you want to argue it.

Not quite, if a certain version of Halo brings a Special DLC or some bonuses in-game it isn't the same game then.

Don't know if that's the case with reach, but that's the case with many games.

But they still the same game. Same thing goes for Nintendogs. They're not that different to be considered different games. If they belong to different platforms (one for wii and another for DS) now that would be a different game.

But yeah, I think that beating Mw2 isn't out of question. We'll see.

If you look at some of the stats for other Pokemon games, it might even have a better week 1 that Modern Warfare 2 (X360). Diamond and Pearl had an opening of 3,491,840. This was made up of 1,362,580 in the Americas, 1,646,064 in Japan and 483,196 in EMEAA. Heart Gold and Soul Silver had an opening of 2,955,494 worldwide, 1,032,118 in Americas, 1,446,090 in Japan and 477,286 in EMEAA.

If you look Black and White, with 2,609,129 in Japan alone, you could reasonably expect it to get around 2.3 million in the Americas and about 550,000 in EMEAA. This would give it a total of 5.45 million for its opening week, which eclipses Modern Warfare 2's 4.94 million, giving Black and White the largest opening week on a single platform.

Anyone else agree, or is my prediction way off?

i pretty much agree dude alot of people who stopped playing pokemon are coming back for this one so it has a great chance of beating modern warfare 2.

Bigger than Halo Reach? Yes, and comfortably.

Bigger than MW2 360? Not without a $250 million ad campaign.

Bigger than MW2 combined? Yes.

...

The DLC doesn't add or change anything in the games. It is just a skin to make your character look slightly different, and I believe it is only for multiplayer use. The game is the exact same. Specific pokemon are restricted to a certain color and I believe they each have their own powers and abilities. That adds additional gameplay options so it is not the same.

Easily. Probably will beat even MW2 opening (X360 alone). It's second mainline Pokemon entry on DSs already massive userbase so it will be more frontloaded than Diamond&Pearl (like Japan showed).

That's really impressive then.  Reach is no big deal.  Thanks for making sure everyone knows how important Pokemon is.  Reach would do better with the 9 year-old demographic though.  With their piping voices and lightning reflexes.  Gahhh... Sorry, no offense that just struck me as ironic.  Carry on.

I think his last one was sarcastic, due to the dots and the fact that if the second one is impossible, there is no chance in hell of the third.
