LittleBigPlanet 2 Now Coming January 2011

Proving the old adage that there’s no smoke without fire, Media Molecule have now confirmed that LittleBigPlanet 2 will not make its original release window of late 2010. Sackboy and friends will now return in January 2011.

The news came by way of an announcement on LittleBigPlanet.com.

“We’ve all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we’re almost there, but because we love what we’ve made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn’t let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable. Which is why we’ve taken the hard decision to delay the worldwide release of LittleBigPlanet 2, originally slated for later this year to January 2011.”

Contrite about the unfortunate delay, Media Molecule have stated that they are looking at more ways to give people a taste of LBP2 before its eventual launch. Sound like more beta time to us.

Well I'm disappointed as this was my most anticipated game this year but I'd rather have the completed product than something that was rushed. Will be a shame for Sony though as this is the sort of game that would sell very well over the holiday period.

What this means for me in my perspective:

1) I was alreayd planning to pick up LBP 2 next year anyway so not really a big loss for me.

2) It'll be harder for it to garner GOTY awards as next year there will be even more GOTY Contending Games than this Year.

3) Sales is up for debate. It's missing the holiday season and LBP 2 would've been a really great game for anyone to pick up and play through the Holiday and also great for kids. But January tends to be a slow period for sales but I believe LBP 2 will have legs and will eventually pass 3 Mil.

:( .... Square Enix , is that you ?

Too bad it's going to miss a nice boost from the holiday season .

I think that's good for us and for the game. It was planned for release in November alongside GT5, NFS: Hot Pursuit, COD: Black Ops and the list goes on. Good move IMO :)

LBP, SOCOM, Killzone & Motorstorm is a very stacked start. I think LBP & SOCOM would have done fine where they were before but I don't run the company.

absolutely gutted but my time would of been torn between this and GT5 so may its a good thing and ill end up getting more out of both games

Well, I'll definitely get Need for Speed day one in that case. Nothing's so bad that it ain't good for something!

This makes me sad :(
