Forums - Sales - The two main reasons why Wii will not outsell PS2

I agree. Actually during last quarter Sony shipped more PS2s than MS shipped X360s and we are talking about nearly 10 years old system! It's really still selling great in developing markets. Vgchartz also greatly undertracks PS2 but it is understandable considering that it's probably very hard to track these smaller and less developed markets.

Those are definitely two very good points. For software I think the problem will really present itself once the Wii's succesor is released in late 2011 or early 2012. Nintendo has carried the system with first party titles, and once they stop releasing them the system sales will really collapse. The PS2 was still getting significant 3rd party releases long after PS3 released.

The second point about Nintendo's lack of presence in developing markets is also a very good one, and a point that is not brought up as often.

Still I think at this pint the Wii is almost certain to become the second best selling home console of all time, which would have been hard to predict happening after last gen and the Gamecube.

You're ignoring that PS2 saw a redesign while the Wii has yet to see it. If it will ever see.

Redesign make wonders, for instance look at how the 360 or the Ps3 have been selling since they went slimmer.

IMO, a Wii redisign later this year would be ideal. That way we would be back to 2007 numbers, and beating the PS2 in overall sales would be child play.

i was thinking that the Wii would be a good emerging market console when its alot cheaper, motion controls, perfect really

but you don't think they have the infrastructure to sell it everywhere, why not?

Plus, the Wii doesn't explode a month after the warranty expires, causing you to buy another one.  I don't know anybody that only owned one PS1 or PS2.

I think Wii can!

pricecut to 99$ when Wii2 release, redesign, pokemon, Wii relax etc. You never know what could happen.

Anyone remember GB era, nearly dead, than POKEMON...

But the 3rd party support was a strong advantage of PS2, so it will be difficult, but not impossible, imho.

I think it can at least cross the 100M mark.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

100M for sure!

The greatest XBfanboys and PSfanboys wouldn't deny that number!

100M by the end of 2011 is safe, if you ask me.

C'mon

Same here. PS3 didn't get out of the store shelf though.
