Enslaved Review Scans from GamesMaster Are Now Out In The Open A couple of weeks ago it was rumored that the new issue of GamesMaster contains the first official Enslaved Review and that the score was quite decent – 86%. In the meantime the rumor was confirmed by the magazine’s subscribers, but the first Enslaved Review Scans are surfacing only now, and here. Developed by Ninja Theory, Enslaved tells a story that takes place 150 years from now, on a war decimated Earth. Almost the entire human population has been eradicated by robots who even now, after many years, are still roaming the land, following their orders – “Kill Humans!“. The main character of Enslaved: Odyssey To The West is Monkey, a solitary man, who has spent his entire life fighting and running from the robots. But, eventually, Monkey has been taken prisoner and the start of the game finds him captive, on an airship. So after being captured, Monkey wakes up on this airship only to witness how another prisoner (Trip – a technologically adept woman) sabotages the ship. After some action scenes where he tries to survive the disintegrating flying prison and the mech guards, Monkey manages to escape by jumping on the last available escape pod, occupied by…surprise, surprise…Trip herself. After the escape pod lands (it’s actually more of a crash) Monkey passes out only to wake up a few minutes later and find out that Trip has “equipped” him with a slave headband which cannot be removed by the wearer. It seems that Trip needs Monkey’s help to get home and if he doesn’t obey her commands, the headband will crush his skull. So the two embark on a perilous journey and, even though their relationship is off to a bad start, they will need to work together in order to survive. Enslaved is a game that seems to have everything going for it: Ninja Theory has proved to be a quality developer (their last game, Heavenly Sword, has sold over 1 million copies and has a Metacritic score of 79) so these guys are definitely capable of making the gameplay, based on the collaboration between the two protagonists, work, the story has been written by Alex Garland (he wrote the screenplay for Sunshine and 28 Days Later, as well as The Beach novel which was later turned into a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio) and the game is directed by Andy Serkis (widely known for playing Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy) who also did the motion capture for Monkey. So, does Ninja Theory and Enslaved rise up to the expectations? Check out to Enslaved Review scans to find out (01,02,03,04) or read some excerpts from the review, below (yeah i know you’re lazy): “We’re bursting to say it, so we might as well just put it out there: Enslaved is a phenomenal experience, and a genuine glimpse into a near future in which games and Hollywood finally get it on.” “Forget David Cage’s heavy-handed Heavy Rain; in Enslaved every nuance of a character’s expression conveys emotions mere words cannot do justice.” “Enslaved’s universe is similarly spectacular, grabbing you by the short and curlies during Monkey’s initial hair-raising escape from a Slaver’s ship and never once letting go.” “There’s a Technicolor swagger here that makes even Uncharted 2 look drab, though it’s fair to say that – in terms of textures at least – Ninja Theory’s baby is a poor relation to Naughty Dog’s opus.” “Enslaved is also, if not quite a king, then a prince of the set piece.” “Ninja Theory are throwing all kind of conceptual camera angles at you – dazzling you with their flair for pacing and cinematography.” “Enslaved is a long game considering it’s genre – a good ten hours to beat.”…”It definitely sags a bit during its middle chapters,…,but picks up spectacularly again before a quite beautiful if strangely sad ending that poses as many questions as it answers.” “It’s a shame then that the actual mechanics never quite match up to the art and cinematography.” “There is also a tendency not to know what the heck is going on and button mash your way to victory, but it all looks nice enough and is consistently entertaining. Just don’t expect depth.” “Mechanically then, Enslaved is as rough-around-the-edges as grizzled Monkey himself – but then this game really is about the journey, and when it finally draws to a close a little part of out heart broke at the though of perhaps never seeing Monkey or Trip again. If you’re seeking a roller-coaster ride that piles on thrills and spills, you should absolutely submit yourself to Enslaved’s manifold charms.” GamesMaster Score: Graphics – 90% The Enslaved release date is October 5th in the United States and October 8th in the United Kingdom. Ninja Theory will release the game for PS3 and Xbox 360. A Enslaved Demo has gone live last week for the European owners of a PS3. Ninja Theory has announced that a PS3 Enslaved US Demo will be released on September 21st. Xbox 360 owners will also get a demo but its release dates hasn’t been yet revealed. ____________ Good score
